AUTODESK'S DIGITAL TWIN PLATFORM DEBUTS
Autodesk has announced
the commercial availability
of its cloud-based digital twin
platform, Autodesk Tandem, following
its successful public
beta. As plans and files change
throughout the design and construction
process, keeping data
together is challenging. A recent
FMI report revealed that more
than 95 percent of all data goes
unused in engineering and construction,
which results in inefficient
processes and lost revenue
for AEC firms and owners.
"Autodesk Tandem is a cloudbased
digital twin technology
platform that aims to turn that
Scott Griffiths
stat on its head," said Bob Bray,
senior director and general
manager, Autodesk Tandem. "It
enables projects to start digital,
stay digital, and deliver digital,
transforming rich data into business
intelligence."
By embracing digital transformation
and harnessing BIM
data throughout the design
and construction process, AEC
firms can create and handover
a digital twin to customers. The
easily accessible, contextual,
and insightful data in a digital
twin makes for ready-to-go
operations.
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP
ACoventry University student
is among a small group of
apprentices who are the first in
the UK to have completed their
Civil Engineer degree apprenticeships.
Scott Griffiths, who
works as a structural engineer
at Waterman group in Birmingham,
passed his Level 6 Civil
Engineering degree apprenticeship
end point assessment
in June, achieving Incorporated
Engineer (IEng) status with the
Institution of Civil Engineers.
Scott began on a Level 3
apprenticeship at the age of 18
and progressed through a parttime
Higher National Certificate
(HNC) at CU Coventry, before
starting on the Civil Engineer
degree apprenticeship Scott
learned to manage the challenge
of balancing a full-time
job and part-time study. The
discipline he mustered from
this experience has helped him
to be better organised and
goal-oriented, which has driven
him to achieve more in his personal
life, work and studies.
On the benefits of studying
via the apprenticeship route,
Scott said: "Working day-to-day
in the industry that my studies
applied to allowed me to see
the value in every portion of the
qualification. I could take more
information in because I had
somewhere to place it, and as
a result, I was able to achieve
much higher grades than I
would have done in a full-time
scenario."
NEW HOMES FROM TFL'S PROPERTY COMPANY
Up to 46,000 new homes in
the capital could be delivered
by Transport for London's
new property development
company over the next 25
years. The proposals would
form part of TfL's bailout settlement
with the government.
TfL director of commercial
property Graeme Craig said:
"As part of our long-term strategy,
and building on the successful
work that has already
taken place in recent years,
we are now looking to take forward
development activity in a
commercial property company
VECTORWORKS JOINS THE OGC
that is wholly owned by TfL."
Craig said half of the new
build homes would be affordable
with the revenue to be
reinvested in public transport.
Brokers Hank Zarihs Associatessaid
SME builders would
be keen to be involved and that
property development finance
lenders would support them.
TfL already has more than
6,300 homes with planning
committee approval with 479
homes for Nine Elms and 51
homes for Old Brompton Road
the most recent consents.
Vectorworks, Inc. has
announced its official membership
in the Open Geospatial
Consortium (OGC), a global
resource for geospatial information
and standards. As a
technical member, Vectorworks
will offer its experience and
expertise in connecting BIM
and GIS workflows to the OGC.
"Joining the OGC is a milestone
that not only shows our
commitment to standards for
BIM and location data, but also
demonstrates how we’re continually
progressing to advocate
for the needs and standards
of the AEC and landscape
industries," said Vectorworks
CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar.
Through their member-driven
consensus process, OGC
serves as the leading authority
on geospatial standards,
ensuring that location information
is findable, accessible,
integrable and reusable. Vectorworks
global architecture,
landscape architecture and
planning customer-base, along
with the use of geospatial data
across BIM and BIM for landscape
workflows, are leading
priorities for the company. As
such, together with the OGC,
Vectorworks will participate in
discussions that ensure interoperability
of geospatial data
within design and BIM projects.
