Auburn: Three charged after
dramatic late-night arrest
Three men have been charged and
$10,000 cash seized following an incident
in Auburn recently.
About 11.10pm on Saturday, July
31, officers from Auburn Police Area
Command’s Proactive Crime Team were
patrolling McLean Street, Auburn, when
they approached a Nissan R50, which
was parked illegally with two men sitting
inside and the internal light on.
The driver and passenger aged 29 and
28-years-old exited the vehicle before the
younger man fled on foot.
One officer detained the older man,
while another officer pursued the
younger man on foot, running into the
backyard of a house on Mary Street.
When the male constable attempted to
speak to the man, two male occupants
of the home aged 31 and 60-years-old
approached the officer in an aggressive
manner and threatened him.
The officer requested the men step back
on multiple occasions, which they failed
to do, before the officer deployed OC
spray.
During the altercation, the officer
backed out of the property and the gate
was closed on him by the occupants,
before being forced back open by police
a short time later.
During this time, it’s alleged the
28-year-old man fled the property.
The younger male occupant was
arrested, while the older man was
spoken to along with a number of other
occupants.
Police also seized $10,000 cash at the
time.
The two men aged 28 and 31-years-old
have since been charged in relation to
the incident and both remain before the
courts.
Following further inquiries, the
60-year-old man was arrested and
charged with ‘intimidate police officer
in execution of duty’ and ‘resist or hinder
police officer in the execution of duty’.
All three will front court at a later date.
Wentworthville: Police appeal for
dash cam footage of accident
A young boy was airlifted to hospital
POLICE SNAPSHOT
Compiled by Nicola Barton
after being hit by a car at Wentworthville
recently.
About 4.40pm on Thursday, July 29,
emergency services were called to Lane
Street, near Veron Street, Wentworthville,
following reports a child had been
hit by a car.
A three-year-old boy was treated at
the scene for injuries to his head before
being airlifted to The Children’s Hospital
at Westmead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 36-yearold
man, was uninjured and taken for
mandatory testing.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area
Command attended and launched an
investigation into the circumstances
surrounding the crash.
As inquiries continue, police are
appealing for anyone with information,
or dash cam footage of the incident, to
come forward.
Anyone with information about this
incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers
on 1800 333 000.
Police cracking down on poor
adherence to COVID rules
NSW Police will be conducting a
compliance crackdown on the use of QR
check-in and face masks in and around
supermarkets and large retail premises
in the Greater Sydney area.
There is no reasonable excuse that
members of the wider community are
not adhering to current health orders
and using the QR check in and wearing
face masks.
NSW Police Force will have a zerotolerance
approach to members of the
public and businesses breaching these
orders.
Recent health advice has shown that
supermarkets and large retail stores are a
known source of concern when it comes
to spreading COVID-19.
Businesses not complying with the QR
checking system will receive a $5000
fine.
Members of the public who fail to check
in using the QR code will be fined a total
of $1000.
Not wearing a face mask carries a fine
of $500, unless the person has a medical
exemption.
Catherine McAuley Westmead
students have raised an incredible
$4000 for the Parramatta
Women’s Shelter.
The students held a number of fundraising
events last term including a
Mother’s Day stall, a pizza lunch and a
very successful Lip Sync Battle.
The Lip Sync Battle was a school
favourite considering the restrictions
which had previously been in place in
relation to singing and dancing.
Staff and students battled it out in front
of a packed auditorium with the student
audience all donating a gold coin to
watch the fun. School Principal Mary
Refalo said it was an outstanding effort
from the students involved.
Students from the school.
“We seek to develop in our students an
awareness of those in need and encourage
active involvement in social justice
initiatives,” she said.
“The school has supported the
Parramatta Women’s Shelter since its
establishment last year and it is a cause
the students feel passionate about.”
