Peterborough United will be aiming to
build on their first victory since being
promoted back to the Championship,
having beaten Derby County 2-1 last
weekend.
The Posh were able to overcome their
eight-year stay in League One last
season in a crucial 3-3 comeback
against rivals Lincoln City, ensuring a
runners-up spot and promotion to the
Championship. In what proved to be a
hugely competitive battle for the top
spots, Peterborough finished seven
points clear of Blackpool in third.
Asserting their dominance, the club
highlighted the attacking capabilities
they possess, finishing as top scorers
last season with 83 goals and a goal
difference of 37. The notable centre
forward Jonson Clarke-Harris provided
a staggering 31 of those goals himself,
with seven coming from the penalty
spot. This cemented him as League One’s
top scorer for the 2020/21 season also.
Now heading into the new season,
Peterborough have been recruiting
wisely in the market, taking players
such as Jack Marriott from Derby
County on a free transfer, and signing
heavily demanded Jorge Grant to a
three-year deal from Lincoln.
It would be foolish to underestimate
Darren Ferguson’s side, as the manager
has been able to retain the majority
of his winning squad. Centre back and
captain Mark Beevers, for example,
has impressive experience in the
Championship, having made over 250
appearances across four clubs. It will
no doubt prove difficult to break down
such a team, so PNE will have to bring
their A-game in this fixture if they hope
to be victorious.
