THE ONE AND ONLY
LAST FIVE
MANAGERS
THE BOSS
DARREN
FERGUSON
JANUARY 2019 – PRESENT
SCOTTISH
Peterborough United appointed
former manager Ferguson in
January 2019 after the sacking
of Steve Evans. The son of Sir
Alex has had two previous spells
as Posh manager, and originally
agreed a deal until the end of
his first season back in charge.
The vision of promotion to the
Championship was key for the
club and Ferguson to reach an
agreement. Since taking charge,
he has guided Peterborough
to a monumental second place
finish in League One last season,
meaning promotion to the
Championship with 87 points and
without the need for Play-Offs.
Ferguson has earned three
League One manager of the
month awards since arriving
in 2019, with his most recent
award in February 2021, pending
promotion. He will now look to
guide Peterborough to survival
in the Championship.
DAVE ROBERTSON // FEB 2015 TO SEP 2015 // ENGLISH
Dave Robertson became caretaker manager of the club
in February 2015, following Darren Ferguson’s previous
departure. He won his first three games in charge,
becoming only Peterborough’s second manager to
achieve such a feat. Robertson was quickly awarded the
managerial position in May 2015, signing a three-year
contract. After a disappointing start to the 2015/16 season,
with one win in the first six league games of the season,
Robertson was sacked in September 2015.
GRAHAM WESTLEY // SEP 2015 TO APR 2016 // ENGLISH
Former PNE boss Graham Westley was appointed manager
of the Posh in September 2015, after the dismissal of his
predecessor Dave Robertson earlier that same month.
Westley took Peterborough to a fourth round replay in the
FA Cup, where they fell short to West Bromwich Albion. He
also lifted his side into the Play-Off places in January 2016,
however, a poor run of form and a 2-0 defeat to Scunthorpe
United resulted in his sacking as of April 2016, with the Posh
down in 14th position in League One.
GRANT McCANN // MAY 2016 TO FEB 2018 // NORTHERN IRISH
Grant McCann was appointed in May 2016 and was awarded
a four-year contract with the club. He took Peterborough
to 11th in League One during his first full season as
manager but won the August 2017 League One manager of
the month award, with Posh sitting at the top of the league
table. In January 2018, McCann’s men beat Aston Villa 3-1 at
Villa Park in the FA Cup third round. He was soon dismissed
a month later, though, when league results showed no
guarantee of a Play-Off spot.
STEVE EVANS // FEB 2018 TO JAN 2019 // SCOTTISH
Glasgow-born Evans became Posh manager in February
2018, less than 24 hours after he resigned from his
job at Mansfield. He took charge for 52 matches with
Peterborough, winning 21 and losing 16. When he managed
to win just three of his last 13 League One matches, the club
decided to dismiss him and his assistant Paul Raynor. This
left Peterborough United in sixth place, within two points of
seventh-placed Doncaster at the time in January 2019.
