North End’s youngsters are looking for an immediate reaction after the opening
weekend of the Youth Alliance North West Conference.

End three goals, but that wasn’t
enough to take anything as Salford City
took a 5-3 win.
Speaking after the game, Slater said:
“We created chances, we put a few
away, but the defending is what let us
down in the end.
“We’ve been working on it all week
[defending] so it’s even more
frustrating.
“We need to improve the defensive
side. I think we’re good enough
attacking, we create and score goals,
but it’s just clean sheets that win
you games.”
Slater scored two of the three goals
for North End and was a constant
threat down the left-hand side. The
19-year-old was happy to get off the
mark for the season and hopes there
will be more to come.
“It’s a good start to the season for me
to score two goals, but it could have
been more and I’m just going to keep
working to improve,” he added.
The league has become an U19 division
this season and that meant the likes of
goalkeeper Ollie Lombard and Holland-
Wilkinson, who signed professional
contracts in the summer, were able to
get important game time.
And the latter was in agreement with
his first-year team-mate, saying
the squad must tighten up over the
coming weeks.
“We scored three goals which is hard
to do but at the end of the day we
conceded five,” said the No.27.
“So that’s what we need to now work
on, focus on that [during] these next
coming weeks and try and concede
less goals in the coming games.
“We scored three goals which is good,
but we conceded more, so that’s
something we want to put right in the
next game.”
The 18-year-old scored the third goal
of the game and picked up an assist
against the Greater Manchester outfit
to set up Slater’s second goal and
talked about adding different aspects
to his game.
“Definitely good to get off the mark,
glad to get an assist as well which is
something that I’m trying to add to
my game as a No.9,” he added.
