Council Services Still Operating<br />

Council staff are prepared to carry out as much<br />

business as possible online at this time. All Council<br />

facilities andbuildingsremain closedduring Level4.<br />

During this time we encourage you tofollow the<br />

advice from the Government. While the facilities<br />

may beclosed, you can carry out business with<br />

the Council online or over the phone, and regular<br />

updates will be posted on our website and social<br />

media channels.<br />

Council Services<br />

Essential services that continue include rubbish<br />

and recycling –bins and bags should be put out as<br />

usual (Please place them clear of cars and other<br />

bins as contractors will not be moving bins to<br />

empty them).<br />

We continue to provide water, wastewater,<br />

stormwater and drainage, stockwater, roading,<br />

burials, Community Team support, pensioner housing<br />

andcleaningofpublic toilets on themainroutes.<br />

The non-essential services that customers can<br />

access byphone or digitally include customer<br />

services, LIMs, building consent processing,<br />

resource consent processing, noise control,<br />

animal control and rates support.<br />

Your Feedback onThree Waters Reform<br />

Ratepayers will recently have received information<br />

from the Council asking for their feedback on the<br />

Government's Three Waters Reform.<br />

The Government is proposing that three water<br />

(drinking water, waste water and storm water)<br />

services move from the 67 councils who currently<br />

manage these, into four large entities.<br />

If the reform goes ahead, WaimakaririDistrict would<br />

become part of an entity that covers most ofthe<br />

South Island. The Government has given councils<br />

until the end of September to provide feedback.<br />

Mayor Dan Gordon says the fundamental<br />

question is: ‘Will the reform proposal benefit the<br />

Waimakariri Community?’<br />

“The Council’s position remains that, based on the<br />

limited information presented sofar, we do not<br />

join the Government’s reform programme at this<br />

point. We are not convinced that there are benefits<br />

for the Waimakariri community but importantly we<br />

need to hear from the community before reaching<br />

aformal decision.”<br />

This information contained details of anumber of<br />

community drop-in sessions to be held across the<br />

District.Unfortunately,due to currentcircumstances,<br />

these sessions have been cancelled.<br />

Tuesday 31 <strong>August</strong> 6.30 –7.30pm –keep an<br />

eye out on our website and Facebook page for<br />

more details.<br />

The Council is encouraging residents to head<br />

online (waimakariri.govt.nz/letstalk) to learn more<br />

about the pros-and-cons of reform and share their<br />

feedback before 5September.<br />

“We have laid out what the Government are trying<br />

to achieve, what the concerns of the Council are,<br />

and key statistics that paint aclear picture of how<br />

water services in Waimakariri are performing.<br />

“We’re asking residents to read through this info,<br />

think about what is important to them, and share<br />

their views.”<br />

Global Song Competition<br />

Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) at the<br />

International Federation of Library Associations<br />

and Institutions (IFLA) <strong>2021</strong> conference last week.<br />

Waimakariri Libraries have earned atop spot in<br />

the first NPSIG International Music Competition<br />

aer composing an original song and music video<br />

about how much they love their library.<br />

Waimakariri Libraries was one of the highest point<br />

scorers alongside entries from China, Serbia and<br />

Polandout of atotal of 70 entries from17countries.<br />
