This article is a meta-analysis of Scared Straight and similar
crime deterrence programs. These programs were very
popular when I was in high school and are still in use today.
The analysis shows that these programs actually increase
the likelihood for crime, which is the opposite effect of the
well-meaning people that implement such programs.
