Heaven and Hell

The initial sketch eventually evolved
into a concept, which was good
enough to be transferred to the big
canvas.
I began working on „Heaven & Hell“ in
the winter of 2009. In this early phase
of the painting, an artist friend, Greg
Pettit, recommended that I look at the
„Tree of Life“ from the Kabbalah. I had
not looked into it before, and I was
amazed at the detailed description of
the universe that lay in front of me.
THE SOUL‘S JOURNEY
Die anfängliche Skizze entwickelte
sich schließlich zu einem Konzept,
was gut genug war, um auf die große
Leinwand übertragen zu werden.
Im Winter 2009 begann ich mit der
Arbeit an „Heaven & Hell“. In dieser
Frühphase des Bildes empfahl mir ein
befreundeter Künstler, Greg Pettit, mir
den „Baum des Lebens“ aus der Kabbala
anzuschauen. Ich hatte mich zuvor
noch nicht damit beschäftigt und
ich war erstaunt, welch detaillierte
Beschreibung des Universums da vor
mir lag.

The Tree of Life coincided in large
parts with the diagram I had already
developed and gave it the final touch.
In the end, „Heaven & Hell“ became
a synergy of different belief systems,
translated into a modern and understandable
language.
The painting shows the journey of
consciousness, starting from the point
where it is manifested into the material
world, up to its completion, the highest
state it can reach.
The painting illustrates the various
levels through which consciousness
must pass in order to reconnect with
its own source at the end. Consciousness
passes through the animal stage
(senses/lust), the self-contemplative
(ego/logic) and finally reaches the
transpersonal level, where it transforms
itself to become one with its
source again.
The assumption that it is possible for
human beings to escape this eternal
cycle of birth and death determines
the image and is its central message.
„Heaven & Hell“ describes the stages
of our spiritual growth.
Der Baum des Lebens deckte sich
in weiten Teilen mit dem Diagramm,
welches ich bereits entwickelt hatte
und gab ihm den letzten Schliff. So ist
„Heaven & Hell“ letzten Endes eine Synergie
aus verschiedenen Glaubenssystemen
geworden, übersetzt in eine
moderne und verständliche Sprache.
Das Bild zeigt die Reise des Bewusstseins,
ausgehend von dem Punkt, an
dem es in der materiellen Welt manifestiert
wird, bis hin zu seiner Vollendung,
dem höchsten Zustand, den es
erreichen kann.
Es veranschaulicht die verschiedenen
Ebenen, durch die das Bewusstsein
schreiten muss, um sich am Ende wieder
mit seiner eigenen Quelle zu verbinden.
Das Bewusstsein durchläuft
die animalische Stufe (Sinne/Trieb),
die selbst-kontemplative (Ego/Logik)
und erreicht schließlich die transpersonale
Ebene, in der es sich selbst
transformiert, um im letzten Schritt
wieder Eins mit seinem Ursprung wird.
Die Annahme, dass es für Menschen
möglich ist, diesem ewigen Kreislauf
von Geburt und Tod zu entkommen,
bestimmt das Bild und ist seine zentrale
Message. „Heaven & Hell“ beschreibt
die Stationen unseres spirituellen
Wachstums.
