Entry requirements<br />

> You should be at least 16 years old.<br />

> Secure an Early Years apprenticeship for a<br />

minimum of 30 hours a week (this will include one<br />

day in <strong>College</strong> per week).<br />

> You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths. Please note, unless you already have<br />

grade 9-4, you will need to study up to Level 2 in<br />

these subjects.<br />

> You will need to attend an interview.<br />

> Hold a clear Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)<br />

check at the start of the course.<br />

About the apprenticeship<br />

This apprenticeship is an ideal starting point for<br />

those who want a career in Early Years, working<br />

with children aged 0 to 5 years. You will develop<br />

the skills to care for, protect and support children’s<br />

development and learning. It is key that you have a<br />

responsible attitude and enjoy working with children,<br />

alongside being fully committed to this type of work.<br />

You will cover topics such as promoting play in early<br />

years settings, supporting care routines for babies<br />

and young children, developing positive behaviour<br />

and supporting the child in preparing for school.<br />

After this apprenticeship, you are able to move on to<br />

the Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma or the Early<br />

Year Educator Apprenticeship. This qualification is<br />

aimed at people who wish to work, or are working,<br />

with children aged 0-5 (with a working knowledge<br />

of 5-7 year olds). You will ensure children are looked<br />

after, kept active, happy and nourished, while helping<br />

them to develop social & practical skills. This will<br />

prepare you to work in childcare roles such as Early<br />

Years Practitioner and Room Leader.<br />

> Secure an apprenticeship in a Primary, Secondary<br />

or <strong>College</strong> setting for a minimum of 30 hours<br />

a week (this will include one day in <strong>College</strong> per<br />

week).<br />

> You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

and maths. Please note if you do not already<br />

have GCSE grade 9-4, you will need to pass a L2<br />

qualification in these subjects.<br />

> A GCSE at grade 4 or above in English.<br />

> You will need to attend an interview<br />

> Hold a clear Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)<br />

check at the start of the course.<br />

About the apprenticeship<br />

This apprenticeship is suitable for those working in<br />

a Primary, Secondary or <strong>College</strong> setting. Learn the<br />

skills required by a Teaching Assistant, ensuring<br />

pupils get the most out of their lessons. You could<br />

help to plan, carry out and evaluate a wide range<br />

of learning activities, working both alongside the<br />

teacher to support classroom activities, and alone<br />

with individuals or groups of students. Some learning<br />

support staff specialise in areas such as music or<br />

special needs. This apprenticeship will help improve<br />

your employment prospects and enable you to work<br />

in a variety of settings.
