PARRAMATTA COUNCIL ELECTIONS - PARRAMATTA WARD
in hotly contested area
Ward offers plenty to debate ahead of this Saturday’s Council election
“Despite my objections, a majority of
Parramatta Councillors have voted to
allow buildings of up to 67 storeys high to
be built over the next few years.
“We need to have people on the Council
who will ensure that new developments
don’t destroy what we love about
Parramatta and what makes it such a great
place to live.
“We need people who will protect the
community’s interests, not just increase
the profits of wealthy developers. The next
few years will be absolutely crucial.”
Our Local Community candidate Henry
Green will also put his hand up, joined
by running mates Alan Sexton and Jason
Garrard.
Mr Green is a retired businessman who
lives in the South Parramatta heritage
precinct.
He is passionate about maintaining and
preserving heritage and improving infrastructure.
“I want to try and bring back a little bit
of common sense to the Council,” he said.
“I live in a heritage conservation area
and I have been fighting for heritage preservation
for many years.
“I am also interested in improving footpaths,
particularly around Toongabbie.”
The Liberal Democrats will make their
only City of Parramatta appearance in the
Parramatta Ward, with Constitution Hill
residents Charles and Hugo Rios throwing
their hats in the ring.
Sitting Liberal Councillor Martin Zaiter
will not recontest as an independent.
2017 election results in the Parramatta
Ward saw the Liberal Party take out 32.1
per cent of votes, Labor held 30 per cent,
The Greens held 13.13, and OLC 9.3 per
cent.
With the absence of the Liberal brand,
conservative ratepayers will be looking
elsewhere to place their vote, providing
a unique opportunity for conservative
independents like the OLC to increase
representation in the Parramatta Ward.
