« parra news Tuesday, November 30, 2021 PARRAMATTA COUNCIL ELECTIONS - ROSEHILL WARD 15 must go into three Diverse collection of suburbs makes for an intriguing battle in Rosehill, NICOLA BARTON City of Parramatta’s Rosehill Ward has gained a lot of interest with the highest number of candidates vying for a seat at its table. 15 candidates will battle it out for their spot with a sole appearance of both the Small Business and Socialist Alliance parties. The Rosehill Ward is particularly unique given its diverse collection of suburbs and the individual needs of which each possesses. From issues of parking at Harris Park and heritage conservation in Parramatta South to improving transport links and green spaces in Wentworth Point, there’s plenty of issues and projects that are set to be hot topics this election. Incumbent Labor Councillor Patricia Prociv will recontest, with running mates Paul Noack and Sinead Simpkins. Cr Prociv said she would be focussing on the delivery of more recreation space, advocating for more public transport and improving existing parks and amenities. “I will continue to advocate for better outcomes for our community, particularly for recreation space under the M4, the delivery of Peninsula Park and for the light rail in Wentworth point,” she said. Sitting Councillor and former Lord Mayor Andrew Wilson will also recontest, however he will no longer represent the Our Local Community (OLC) party and will instead lead the Small Business Party ticket. Cr Wilson said he will be focussing on big infrastructure, traffic, lack of parking and supporting small business. “We are an experienced team with a focus on the everyday issues and we have tailored our campaign to the individual needs of each area,” he said. “I am campaigning for a bridge from Melrose Park into Wentworth Point and I will continue to call for the delivery of bridges and underpasses for a more walkable city.” Second on his ticket is James Laurence, followed by Christine Rigby. A fresh face on the Local Government scene, Dan Siviero will instead lead the OLC ticket, joined by George Sleiman and his wife Angelo Siviero The father of four has a background OLC candidate Dan Siviero. in legal compliance and has previously worked in local government in strategic planning. Greens candidate and civil engineer Francesko Strano will also throw her hat in the ring, joined by David Schwartz and Susan Chen. PARRAMATTA COUNCIL ELECTIONS - ROSEHILL WARD in battle for Rosehill with huge candidate list in play renewable energy and is an advocate for women in STEM, LGBTQIA+ rights and racial equality. “I am committed to working alongside residents – it is deeply important to me that locals are involved in all Council decisions,” she said. Making its sole appearance, the Socialist Alliance Party ticket will be led by local climate and social rights activist Susan Price alongside running mates Katrina James and Douglas Hawthorne. The group is passionate about heritage, fighting inappropriate development, climate change, transparency and the rights of First Nations peoples. “For too long, developers and corporate interests have sought to dominate decision-making,” Ms Price said. Sitting Liberal Councillor and Lord Mayor Steven Issa was not endorsed by the Liberal Party and will not recontest as an independent. In 2017, the Labor Party held 33.7 per cent of votes in the Rosehill Ward, closely followed by the Liberals, who held 33.3 per cent. OLC held 12.4 per cent and The Greens held 12 per cent.
