PARRAMATTA COUNCIL ELECTIONS - NORTH ROCKS WARD
No current Councillors
Fresh blood assured but it’s a tight race with 11 newcomers fighting it out

A
huge shake-up is on the horizon
for the North Rocks Ward, with no
incumbent Councillors running
as lead candidates.
Sitting Liberal Councillor and former
Lord Mayor Bob Dwyer will run as number
two on a conservative independent ticket
and Liberal Councillor Andrew Jefferies
will not recontest.
The third spot on the North Rocks Ward
has remained vacant since the passing of
Labor Councillor, Paul Han.
As a traditionally conservative ward it
is likely the Our Local Community Party
(OLC) and independents, who are registered
members of the Liberal Party, will be
favoured in the polls.
Georgina Valjak will lead the ticket of
conservative Independents, followed by
Cr Dwyer and Rob Mashford.
Ms Valjak is a Winston Hills resident
of over 20 years and was a member of its
Residents Action Group.
She said she will be focusing on local
issues and putting the community first.
“We are running because Liberal
Labor candidate Ange Humphries.

have a proven track record in providing
well maintained public amenities,
family-friendly facilities, convenient and
comprehensive local services and a safe
environment for families” she said.
“The refurbishment of our local shopping
hubs such as Chisholm Centre in Winston
Hills and Carmen Drive in North Rocks
and our local parks were so important to
our community during lockdowns.”

chose not to field candidates in the City of
Parramatta.
Another more conservative option for
voters, without the major party membership
is OLC candidate Donna Wang.
Ms Wang previously ran in the Epping
Ward for OLC in 2017.
The mother of two has experience in
aged care and community services, and is
passionate about accessibility, improving
pedestrian safety and local infrastructure.

“There hasn’t been independent representation
in the North Rocks Ward and
it’s important that residents’ concerns are
heard,” she said.
Second on the OLC ticket is daughter
of Deputy Lord Mayor Michelle Garrard,
Kiara Garrard-Williams and John Hugh.
Labor’s new lead candidate Ange
Humphries will put her hand up, joined
by running mates Alan Mascarenhas and
Nick Nikolaidis.
