Applied Learning Programme (ALP)The Secondary Two students embarked on theirALP Project Challenge using Design Thinking as aproblem-solving methodology to solve real-worldproblems for ‘Smart Living’. We are proud thatthey were able to apply what they have learntover the two years in coding the micro:bit tocome up with innovative and creative solutions.The teams created digital journals using GoogleSites to document their inventive journey,capturing ideas and coming up with videos tointroduce their prototypes on iPads. The finalproject showcase was exciting as each class gotto vote for the most impressive project.Our Secondary One students started using thePersonal Learning Device (PLD) for home-basedlearning (HBL) and it is now a norm to distributefully coloured digital copies of class work viaMicrosoft Teams and Class Notebook. Thestudents are also able to receive feedback anddigital stamps from the teachers for their classwork.Despite the challenges, our ALP ambassadorswere able to attend the online NXplorersworkshop hosted by Science Centre, Singapore.They also took part in the IgnITE Skills Challenge2021 where our Beatty ALP Drone Team,Beattyzens, did us proud and emerged as theChampion for the Dancing Drones Category!Congratulations!I thought it will be hard and complex,but with the guidance of the teacher andcooperation of my team-mates, I realised itwas not that difficult. It was a truly funexperience learning together!Alysa Cheong, 2N22021 continues to be a challenging year forus to engage our students in the Makerspaceas we have to comply with safe managementmeasures (SMMs). To prevent inter-mingling inthe Makerspace, we introduced the SecondaryTwo students to 3D printing via a self-directedlearning lesson hosted on the Student LearningSpace (SLS). Students learnt to use theTinkerCad app and designed their personalisedkey tags as part of their project during HBL. Theirdigital submissions were selected to be printed,turning innovative ideas into 3D key tags.The Beatty team displayed commendableteamwork and a strong sense ofcommitment throughout the competition. Ittakes resilience to keep refining the codesand flying the drones to perfection.
