Pantone reveals <strong>2022</strong> Color<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Year: Very Peri, a symbol of creativity<br />

and <strong>the</strong> metaverse<br />

Pantone is often called<br />

<strong>the</strong> global authority when<br />

it comes to color, and<br />

<strong>the</strong>y’ve unveiled <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

pick for <strong>the</strong> color of <strong>2022</strong>;<br />

“Very Peri.” The company says<br />

<strong>the</strong> periw<strong>in</strong>kle hue comb<strong>in</strong>es “<strong>the</strong><br />

steady tranquility of blue with an<br />

energetic <strong>in</strong>fusion of red.”<br />

But “purplish” may be a limited<br />

descriptor for what Pantone labels<br />

“a dynamic periw<strong>in</strong>kle blue hue with<br />

a vivify<strong>in</strong>g violet red undertone.”<br />

Number 17-3938 <strong>in</strong> Pantone’s<br />

catalogue, Very Peri is meant to<br />

carry with it a sense of livel<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

and vigor.<br />

The company says<br />

<strong>the</strong> periw<strong>in</strong>kle hue<br />

comb<strong>in</strong>es “<strong>the</strong> steady<br />

tranquility of blue<br />

with an energetic<br />

<strong>in</strong>fusion of red.<br />

“Blend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> faithfulness and<br />

constancy of blue with <strong>the</strong> energy<br />

and excitement of red, this happiest<br />

and warmest of all <strong>the</strong> blue hues<br />

<strong>in</strong>troduces an empower<strong>in</strong>g mix<br />

of newness,” Pantone said <strong>in</strong> its<br />

announcement.<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g to Pantone, Very Peri’s<br />

selection was also a response to<br />

a burgeon<strong>in</strong>g sector of <strong>the</strong> digital<br />

sphere <strong>in</strong> which hues such as<br />

this one can be seen with some<br />

degree of frequency. Its statement<br />

referred to <strong>the</strong> metaverse, a catchall<br />

phrase for a world <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong><br />

boundaries between digital and<br />

physical have fully imploded. In<br />

recent months, <strong>the</strong> term has been<br />

popularized by Facebook and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

tech companies.<br />
