Illustrious Sir Joseph J. Hagan, Sr.2Illustrious Sir Hagan is the 94th member of Rajah Shrine to serve as Potentate of this fraternal organization. Hagan was born andraised in Washington, PA moving with his family to Berks County in 1969. He has resided in Birdsboro since 1975.He was initiated into Freemasonry at Stichter Lodge No. 254, F. & A. M., Pottstown in 1981 and transferred to Union Lodge No. 479,Birdsboro in 2006. Hagan is a member of the Reading Consistory, Valley of Reading, PA and joined Rajah Shrine in 1982.Joe served as a Trustee from 1995-97 and is a member of several Clubs and Units of Rajah Shrine, including the Rajah Legion ofHonor, a Club for Veterans, having served as their Commander in 2015.A Veteran of the U. S. Navy, Hagan was an Aerographers Mate, weatherman and achieved the rank of Third-Class Petty Officer.Hagan served as the Recorder of Rajah Shrine beginning in 2008 until his retirement from that position on December 31, 2018 andwas granted the title of Recorder Emeritus.As a member of the Rajah Shrine Board of Directors, Hagan serves on several committees and is a representative to theInternational Imperial Shrine Convention and the Middle Atlantic Association. He is also a member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl,Apato Teocalli No. 63, Reading.Illustrious Sir Hagan and his Lady Joyce (Hanna) were married November 6, 1958. They have two children – daughter Crystal,Shillington, and son Joe Junior, Leland, NC, plus four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.In 1955, Joe was a member of the Washington, PA “All Star Baseball Team” that won the P-ON-Y League World Series. The team wasinitiated into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington-Greene Chapter in 2006.
The Potentate’s MessageEs Selamu AleikumGreetings Illustrious Sirs, and Nobles,Nobles, It is my Ladies honor and and Friends: pleasure to serve as Potentate of Rajah Shrine for 2022. I willdo my very best, along with the help of the Board of Directors and the Nobility, to keepour Shrine moving forward and upward.Membership continues to be an obstacle, but we can reverse the downward trendby asking our Masonic Brothers to come visit a Unit or Club meeting and introducingthem to the fun-with-a-purpose, side of Masonry.What a great time we had at Mass Installation; it was a great day. Again, I wantto thank all the Nobles and Ladies that attended, our Aides and their Ladies for allthe work they did, the Concert Band, the Chanters, the Legion of Honor, Ill. Sir GregLewis for his emcee work, our photographers Nobles Sam Ellis and Bill Quinn, and allthe other Nobles and Ladies that helped make our day a success.Bingo is happening every Thursday night at Rajah Shrine. Please support it in anyway you can. Be a regular player, donate food items such as soups or desserts, orhelp on the floor by selling tickets or calling back numbers. This is one of our largestfundraisers.I ask you to support the other Clubs and Units by attending their special events, your own Clubor Unit and the activities of the Rajah Shrine. Let’s make this a fun year. Together we can.The Board of Directors is always here to help, guide and assist. If you don’t know something,the best way to find out is to ask.
