junior & youth sailingTorbay YouthSailing TrustThe Torbay Youth Sailing Trust (TYST) was foundedin 2007 and operates under the umbrella of theRoyal Torbay Yacht Club. We aim to provide theyoung people of Torquay and the surrounding areawith opportunities to access water-based activitiesvia affordable training courses and low costequipment hire.Our friendly and highly qualified instructorsfollow the Royal Yachting Association (RYA)syllabus, providing a widely recognised structureto our training courses. The safety of children isparamount; all our instructors are DBS checkedand trained in handling emergency situations. Weaim to provide a positive learning environment forchildren and young people of all ages and abilities.Our low instructor-to-pupil ratio enables us toencourage learning at a pace appropriate for eachindividual child.TYST provides the complete package with allequipment supplied. Courses include a year’sJunior membership of the Royal Torbay YachtClub, allowing children access to the RTYC JuniorOur mission statement:To encourage the children of Torbayand the surroundingarea into sailingand Youth Sailing Programme once they havecompleted their initial training.All Torbay Youth Sailing Trust courses are taughtover two action-packed days. The RYA syllabuscomprises four “Stages”; once completed the Juniorsailor should be able to competently sail around atriangular course without assistance.Torbay Youth Sailing Trust maintains a varied fleetof dinghies; this enables us to provide affordableaccess to children as young as eight years old.Additionally, our roomy RS Quest dinghies enableadults to brush up their skills or experience the thrillof dinghy sailing for the first time.
