In Tempe, it’s easy to turn the old adage “the best things in life are free” into reality. The city has dozens of affordable activities,<br />

from arts to yoga, that make it possible to have a fun-filled day for under $50. Here are a few itineraries guaranteed to give you<br />

A DAY OF FAMILY FUN<br />

COOL OFF AT A LOCAL SPLASH PAD<br />

When those sunny days heat up, seek out some cool spots in Tempe.<br />

You’ll find a number of places for water fun, including the splash<br />

pad at Tempe Marketplace and The Cloud at Kiwanis Park, the city’s<br />

PICNIC AT TEMPE BEACH PARK<br />

After you splish and splash, bring a basket with sandwiches, snacks<br />

Tempe. Have a scoop (or two!), or try a malt, shake, smoothie, shaved<br />

Start your day at Gallery at TCA (Tempe Center for the Arts), where<br />

has shown more than 150 large and small-scale art exhibitions and<br />

has featured more than 2,500 local and national artists. The gallery is<br />

ART ON CAMPUS<br />

Next on your art tour list is the ASU Art Museum, which hosts rotating<br />

contemporary art exhibits from established and emerging artists.<br />

You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the building’s eye-catching<br />

design by Antoine Predock. Inside, explore three floors of year-round<br />

exhibitions by emerging and established artists in a variety of mediums.<br />

TOUR DE ART<br />

Take a break from your walking tour and hop in the car to see some<br />

of the city’s best public works of art. With a robust public art program,<br />

Tempe is the perfect place to see innovative art while cruising through<br />

the city. Follow along with the City of Tempe’s public art map featuring<br />

Downtown Tempe and Tempe Town Lake. More than 80 public art<br />

pieces are featured—from sculptures and murals to bridge art and<br />

large-scale installations—that will awe and inspire you. PRICE: Free<br />

MEET YOU AT THE ANNEX<br />

Housed in what used to be ASU’s art annex building, Postino Annex<br />

is the perfect ending to your art-filled day. Raise your glass to $5<br />

glasses of wine and pitchers of beer until 5 p.m., or partake in the<br />

eatery’s Board & Bottle special featuring wine and a bruschetta board<br />
