Cadders Hill will host a round of the 2022 Revo British Motocross Championship fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels, that will boast a comprehensive day’s racing on one of the UK’s longest established and most challenging tracks. It is a venue that is steeped in history with the Norwich Viking Motorcycle Club involved in organising motorcycle events on or around the ‘hill’ since 1936. Originally the venue was used for hill climbs, but after the second world war they ran what were known as mountain grasstracks until the circuit became too rough and from 1949 onwards they switched to scrambles – which of course we all know today as motocross. During the war Cadders Hill was used for training dispatch riders, and members of the Home Guard; a fact that was reinforced when pre-event preparation for the 2011 season had to be halted when a 360º excavator unearthed a suspicious object. Further investigation led to the police being called, and they in turn called out the bomb disposal team from Colchester. After thorough inspection, which included an X-Ray of the offending item, it was declared to be a second world war practice mortar bomb filled with cement! Image Rich Media Lyng was one of the venues for the BBC Grandstand Television Trophy scrambles in the late 60s; and there have been rounds of the British Championship here for over 30 years. Cadders Hill is a natural hillside circuit, primarily sand based, without too many man made obstacles. Looking back just 12 months Lyng hosted one of the first outdoor sporting events in the UK to be allowed up to 4,000 spectators after the initial relaxation of some of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. This combined with a Wild Card appearance of World Champion Jeffrey Herlings on the factory Red Bull KTM saw a bumper crowd witness a fantastic day’s racing. The MX1 races proved to be thrillers, with Herlings, and fellow GP rider Ben Watson on the Monster Energy Yamaha going head to head, and enjoying a win apiece with the Dutchman getting the overall verdict due to his victory in the second moto. Conrad Mewse completely dominated the MX2 class with pole position and two gate to flag wins on the Hitachi KTM as he set up an impressive season that saw him take the British Title. For this season he will race in the newly set up Stebbings Car Superstore KTM UK Powered by Bikesure squad, in both Domestic and World Championship campaigns.
