A contractor handles the team’s administrative requirements, such as<br />

collecting data, preparing the site for the visit and preparing reports. Team<br />

members could be drawn from the U.S. <strong>Army</strong> <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Center</strong>; the<br />

<strong>Army</strong> <strong>Center</strong> for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine; the<br />

Groundwater Modeling Support Program at the U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Engineer<br />

Research and Development <strong>Center</strong>-Waterways Experiment Station; the<br />

U.S. Geological Survey; <strong>Environmental</strong> Protection Agency laboratories;<br />

the Department of Energy; and nongovernmental entities. Local<br />

regulatory agencies and community representatives may be involved in the<br />

later stages of a site visit.<br />

Teams examined 13 active and proposed pump-and-treat systems during<br />

the past year. These included Fort Wainwright, Arkansas; Sacramento<br />

<strong>Army</strong> Depot (AD), California; Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey; Tacony<br />

Warehouse, Pennsylvania; Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; Camp<br />

Staley Storage Activity, Texas; Umatilla Chemical Depot (CD), Oregon;<br />

Milan <strong>Army</strong> Ammunition Plant, Tennessee; Fort Devans, Massachusetts;<br />

Cameron Station, Virginia; Livingston Housing, New Jersey; Tooele AD,<br />

Utah; and Pueblo CD, Colorado. The teams identified approximately $69<br />

million in potential lifecycle cost avoidances.<br />

Reviews are labor intensive; only a few can be accomplished each year.<br />
