Wellness Sojourn Hotel
The location of this Wellness Sojourn hotel and
unique local history was what gave inspiration to
the concept of 'Maritime Museum'. To retrieve
the diverse historical experience of Melaka, the
hotel is conceptualized as a ship that voyaged
through the colonial past. Its journey had brought
back fragments of the past which is then reflected
in the interior design of the hotel.
Upon entering the hotel, guests are welcomed to the
reception lobby. It is a space that aims to serve as an area of
gathering in addition to checking-in guests. The layout is curated
with a few clusters of seating to allow for different groups of
crowds to convene at a time and inclusion of luggage into the
traffic flow.
Dark timbers are one of the key elements featured on the
staircase's main newel, doors and floor. It originates from native
Asian woods such as teak, ebony and mahogany which was
commonly seen in colonial era furnishings.
This concept is also relatable to the dark timber posts that
one would usually observe in traditional Chinese Association
temples (huay kuan). To achieve a sense of crispness, dark wood is
contrasted with light paint finishes on the wall. Light and neutral
shades form the framework of a colonial era interior. These airy
hues are incorporated to create a more cooling interior and
