The city of <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>City</strong> is inviting citizens to get<br />
active in the park.<br />
The city’s parks and recreation department is now<br />
offering Fitness in the Park, a drop-in workout class.<br />
“Our staff is always looking at creative new ideas to<br />
get people into the parks,” said <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>City</strong> Parks and<br />
Recreation Director Kim Conrad. “We wanted to offer<br />
something different this year.”<br />
Fitness in the Park offers a variety of classes with<br />
instruction from local instructors from 6:30 to 7:30<br />
p.m. each Thursday from now through the end of July<br />
in the Town Center Park, 3359 Park St. The classes<br />
include hip-hop fitness with Mike Nicholson, Zumba<br />
led by Chauntel Horaney, yoga with Amber Philips,<br />
and body combat instructed by Trisha Justice.<br />
The free sessions allow residents to drop-in for the<br />
whole class or part of the class. All ages and fitness levels<br />
are encouraged to participate.<br />
“It’s for anyone and everyone,” said Conrad.<br />
According to Conrad, the instructors teach modifications<br />
for those who need to go at a slower pace.<br />
The remaining classes include:<br />
• <strong>June</strong> 30: hip-hop fitness<br />
• July 7: Zumba<br />
• July 14: yoga<br />
• July 21: body combat<br />
• July 28: Zumba<br />
Residents should dress in activewear and bring<br />
water.<br />
Fitness in the Park has been sponsored by The Ohio<br />
State University Wexner Medical Center. According to<br />
Conrad, the city needed sponsorship for the program to<br />
pay the instructors involved and advertise the classes.<br />
Workout classes may be canceled due to unfavorable<br />
weather conditions. Cancellation information can<br />
be found on the city’s social media pages as well as the<br />
weather hotline at 614-277-3060.<br />
