IT WAS pleasing to see Kris
Faafoi leave politics. However,
who is now going to clean up his
mess?
His tax and regulations on rental
property owners is reducing supply
and has raised rents on an average
of $150 per week.
His budgeted figure of $325
million to amalgamate state
television and radio has been
jumped on by Willie Jackson
stating he will enhance Maori
broadcasting.
This is a gross waste of money
when we have so many people
needing help at the moment.
I can’t think of any other reason
for spending this money on the
media but for political gain.
We do not need the state
involved in the news media.
It would be better if sold off. –

I am concerned about the
reduced number of trees in
Avonhead and across the wider
Canterbury region.
On Raxworthy St we have lost
a number of trees and the city
council isn’t going to replace
them.
The outcome – fewer trees
causes increased heat levels during
summer months, reduced
bird life in the area as there is no
where for the birds to live, less

New Zealand’s CO2 shortage
seems ironical as some claim we
have too much CO2.
CO2 is used widely in the food
industry from persevering meat,
putting the fizz in beverages and
is pumped into greenhouses to
help plants grow.
Marsden Point captured a significant
amount of CO2 that was
used in our food industry that
now has to be sourced elsewhere
at a higher cost.
It also produced high quality
bitumen and refined 70-80 per
cent of our fuel to our specific
needs, sometimes even re-refining
fuel coming from other
countries that was of low quality.
Why didn’t the Government
buy this strategic asset? Where
were the so called opposition
parties on this matter?
If someone wanted to bring
us to our knees all they need to
do is stop the supply of diesel to
our country. This would stop the
production and distribution of
food around the country.
Much damage has been done
but it’s not too late to save

I AM LEADING a delegation to
Adelaide on Sunday in recognition
of the 50th anniversary
of the Christchurch/ Adelaide
sister city relationship. This is
the first Christchurch sister city
relationship to reach a golden
jubilee.
The Lord Mayor of Adelaide,
Sandy Verschoor, has organised
a civic reception and we will
sign a Recommitment Pledge
to mark the 50th anniversary.
It reflects on five decades of
mutual exchange, collaboration,
celebration, and solidarity and
looks forward to an ongoing exchange
of ideas and information,
arts and culture, trade, travel,
education, and sport, which will
continue to benefit both cities in
the years of friendship to come.
To demonstrate this commitment,
we have members
of the delegation that reflect
the relationship, including the
Children’s University, which has
been a joy to see happen here.
The University of Canterbury
will use this visit as an opportunity
to strengthen ties with the
Mayor
Lianne Dalziel
Adelaide visit will strengthen
sister city relationship
University of Adelaide.
The lord mayor and I will witness
the signing of an memorandum
of understanding between
our two. This is a first step
towards getting direct flights,
which would be hugely beneficial
to both cities.
Another feature of the
visit involves connecting
representatives of our
aerospace industry with the
Australian Space Agency
& Space Discovery Centre
which is based in Adelaide,
and there are also meetings
connecting ChristchurchNZ
with the Adelaide Economic
Development Agency and Lot 14
Innovation Precinct.
Sister city relationships are
first and foremost peopleto-people
relationships. The
volunteers that form committees
on both sides of the Tasman
are the foundation stone of the
relationship. So, it’s a big thank
you to them for 50 years of
making that happen.
