During this decade IG was determined tohighlight the gender dilemma and promote anactive policy that would respond in a concreteway. In this sense, Eliana Reynoso`s story is anexample. She started working for IG when shewas 22 years old, as a welding line operator.Soon she was promoted to Team leader, andtoday she is Welding Supervisor – being thefirst woman to occupy a supervising positionin the company - and now in charge of trainingnew operators among other tasks.“There is always a chance to move from onesector to another. Operators here do not getstuck in the production line. This is one of theaspects I value of this company. Taking overthe responsibility of the supervision of a sectoris a great honour, especially because thisrepresents the ideals of the company regardinggender equality, letting men and women havethe same possibilities of promotion,” saysReynoso.Janet Guidi as President of IG explains how herown experiences serves as a role model in theautomotive industry. “My parents encouragedmy independence and professional challengesince I was a girl, being raised this way allowedme to take risks and make my own contributionto the gender agenda withing the company. Ibelieve that our contribution in this decade wasto dare and show that the automotive sectorcan have a gender equality policy,” says Janet.As for the incorporation of women to theZarate plant Brenda Martin (Human ResourcesManager) highlights, “it was a real milestone inthis last decade. To think about women drivingthe forklift, handling the crane bridge at the endof a press were unthinkable images for manybut all of them were clear in Janet`s vision ofthis new phase.”36
