Burgundy is undoubtedly
a wine lover’s paradise, a
patchwork of tiny vineyards
overflowing (some years) with
some of the finest wines in
the world.
Pouilly-Fuissé
Terres Secretes
Pouilly-Fuissé is one of the southern most appellations
in the Maconnais region of Burgundy, known for
its riper, richer style and full-bodied mouthfeel. The
wines are a perfect match for roast chicken or spiced
monkfish dishes. This wine is power ful but well
balanced with aromatic complexity and good aging
poten tial. Aromas of white flowers and citrus fruit
later evolve into notes of hazelnut and vanilla.
Much like Champagne, it is dominated by three
main grape varieties – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay,
and Gamay. In this issue, we’re focusing on the
complex white wines made from Chardonnay.
We have two limited parcels of wine on offer
which illustrate the diversity in styles of wine
that Chardonnay can make.
Chablis
Patrairche Pere et Fils
France
75cl
Chablis is the home of cool climate Chardonnay
making wines that are mineral, lean and citrussy,
so unlike the Chardonnay’s of the 1980’s that many
people don’t realise it’s Chardonnay. It’s the perfect
match for a goats cheese salad or with oysters.
This wine is crisp with green apply, quince, lemon
and delicate white flower notes with a rich and
harmonious finish.
