SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS & DISABILITIES At Warrington & Vale Royal College, we recognise that high quality support is an essential part of student success. We have a dedicated Additional Learning Support Team committed to developing the skills, behaviours and attitudes required to enable our students to realise their full potential and prepare for their next steps. When applying for a course you are encouraged to disclose any disability or learning difficulty on the application form so that we can ensure the appropriate support is in place for when you start college. You may be referred to learning support by your school, tutor, Progress Coach or you may self-refer. Support needs We are keen to support students who have a range of additional learning support needs, including: • ADD or ADHD • Autism Spectrum Disorder • Communication difficulties • Medical conditions • Mobility difficulties • Moderate learning difficulties • Sensory impairments including hearing and visual • Social, emotional and mental health • Specific learning difficulties including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or Dyscalculia • Speech, language and communication needs • Visual stress. Support may include: • Exam access arrangements • In-class support (prompts, readers and scribes) • Lunchtime and break support • Meet and greet • Mobility support • Modification of learning materials • Orientation • Specialist resources and equipment (laptops with assistive software, dictaphone and reader pens). Transition and Education & Health Care Plans If you have an Education & Health Care Plan (EHCP), we will produce a bespoke support plan outlining the support that you need at college. We also take part in annual reviews at your school and offer various transition visits and opportunities to help you adjust to college life. Study support We have a study support area in our Learning Resource Centre. It offers you quiet study spaces in a supportive environment, and you can drop in to chat about support or to book study sessions.
