YOUR STUDY PROGRAMME
YOUR STUDY
PROGRAMME
As a student at Warrington & Vale Royal College, you will follow a dedicated study programme to suit
your needs, interests and career goals. This consists of your core subject, an industry placement,
English and/or maths (if you need to re-sit), enrichment and a tutorial (ASPIRE).
Industry placement
Industry placements are a brilliant opportunity to experience
work in your chosen industry or sector first hand.
All placements provide valuable industry experience and
put you one step closer to securing employment when you
finish college.
See page 30 to find out more about industry placement
and the employers we work with.
English & Maths
English and maths skills are vital for your future education
and employment. If you haven’t achieved grade 4 or above
in GCSE English or maths, you must study towards this
grade as part of your study programme.
See page 32 for more information.
Enrichment
We encourage you to get involved with the college’s
enrichment programme. It is a great way to make friends
and try something new, as well as develop skills which
can enhance your CV or UCAS application. Activities on
offer include trips, visits, guest speakers, sporting and
recreational events.
See page 26 for more information.
Skills Passport
All students will complete a Skills Passport assessing
common employability skills linked to careers. Students will
develop these vital skills through curriculum and whilst on
their industry placement. The Skills Passport will ensure
students are fully equipped to reach their career destination.
ASPIRE
Our tutorial programme for students is
called ASPIRE.
Each week you will have group tutorials and regular 1:1s
with your Progress Coach and tutors.
Our ASPIRE programme is a career and destination-focused
initiative which will help to prepare you for future success in
your chosen subject. The programme will allow you to take
part in valuable career workshops during your tutorials.
You will be offered a career-led curriculum which responds
to local economic and labour market intelligence and
community needs:
• A bespoke careers programme relevant to the subject you
are studying and the level of study
• Equipping you with the skills needed for your next steps in
life, work and wellbeing
• Topics that cover current local and national issues
• Guest speakers to enhance your knowledge and
understanding of personal and real-life issues.
You will complete a Flight Path that will guide you through
your studies at college and work towards your destination.
This Flight Path will be reviewed twice a year with a Progress
Coach, with support and guidance to reach your goals.
Honours Programme
Our Honours Programme identifies
high-achieving and talented students and enables them
to access events which will help prepare them for higher
education.
Focusing on Russell Group universities, Conservatories and
higher apprenticeships, the Honours Programme ensures
our aspirational students are fully equipped to further their
education at a prestigious university.
