Exemplary student
Emma Wethington
The London Rotary Club is
pleased to honor senior Emma
Wethington as Madison-Plains
High School’s September Student
of the Month.
Students of the month are
selected by school administrators
based on their academic
and extracurricular achievement
and positive character.
Emma has a 4.353 grade
point average, ranking her first
in her class. Her favorite course
is calculus. She has been a member of the
soccer team for four years, where she has
served as a captain for three years. She also
ran cross country for one year.
Emma has been a part of French Club for
two years, serving as president for one year.
She has been on student council for four
years, serving one year as vice president. She
also has served as a class officer for two years.
When asked to name a school staff member
who inspires her, Emma named French
teacher Beatrice Omwomo.
“Mrs. Omwomo is always positive and
pushes me to do better every day in her
class,” she said.
Regarding Emma, Omwomo said, “I have
had the pleasure of teaching Emma
Wethington French for four years, and Finance
Foundations for a semester.
From the first day until
now, Emma impresses me with
her focus, her genuine curiosity
about the information presented
to her, and her thirst for
knowledge. Although Emma realizes
that getting the best
grades is important for her academic
success, she prioritizes
her quest for learning. She
shines in class because she is
dedicated, disciplined, and determined
to do the hard work. She asks pertinent
questions and engages in high level
class discussions. Emma inspires me with
her respect, caring nature, openness to, and
empathy for the opinions and perspectives
of others. Ultimately, Emma is an exemplary
student in her own right.”
After graduation, Emma plans to attend
a university to earn a bachelor’s degree in
international business and obtain a master’s
degree in ecology. She is the daughter
of Jenny Wethington.
The London Rotary Club has a proud history
dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary
International, a volunteer organization of
1.2 million businesses and professional leaders
united worldwide to provide humanitarian
service and help build good will and peace.

Infectious personality
The London Rotary Club is
pleased to honor senior Abbey
Patterson as London High
School’s September Student of
the Month.
Students of the month are
selected by school administrators
based on their academic
and extracurricular achievement
and positive character.
Abbey has a 4.31 grade
point average, is ranked third
in her class and says her favorite
class is American Sign Language.
She has been on the Merit Honor Roll for
four years and is a two-year member of the
National Honor Society, currently serving
as president. Abbey has participated in
varsity track for three years, cheerleading
and the girls’ soccer team the past two
years. She is a four-year member of the
marching band and is this year’s field
commander. She is a member of the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes and student
council. She also has served as vice president
and treasurer for the Class of 2023.
When asked to name a school staff person
who has inspired her, Abbey named high
school mathematics teacher Tim Spiess.
“Mr. Spiess has a light-hearted personality
but knows when to push students to

be the best they can be,” she
said.
About Abbey, Spiess said,
“Abbey Patterson is a very
personable young lady who
will succeed at whatever she
attempts. She has built a
tremendous foundation based
on her faith which, in turn,
has enabled her to reach life
objectives others would not attempt.
Abbey has an inner
strength and self-confidence
which is evident in our hallways. She has
the type of humble, yet infectious personality
other students want to emulate. Any
student who has Abbey as a friend has the
type of friend we all need to have in our
lives. The road she travels has been
blessed, and she will make London proud.”
Abbey plans to attend a four-year university
to study middle school education.
She is the daughter of Joseph and Stacy
Patterson of London.
