and were really interested to hear that they had launched an “Eco”
range. With more emphasis from work providers for contractors to
demonstrate sustainability in their operation, there was no better
time to consider the environmental impact of uniform.
Bakers recovery team tested the garments for a month before
feeding back to RED that they were really comfortable to wear,
and lighter weight than the original Fristads high visibility
garments – which was just as well, as when RED visited them
to take photos of the team for this launch, it was in the
midst of the heatwave at 38 degrees !! They tested out
the work wear trousers and jackets, there are also stretch
versions available and bib and brace overalls all made
from either recycled or bio-based materials.
Ian told RED, “The trousers are definitely much
lighter in the heat. We have been searching for some
time for trousers with a much lower gsm (Weight)
as in the hot weather we still have to be roadside
compliant for the Highways and Police contracts,
but also ensure our team are appropriately
dressed for the conditions. Roadside safety is our
priority and company image is also very important
so finding these trouser in the same style as
our existing uniform ticked all the boxes. I was
particularly pleased with the shorter leg – they
fitted just right and the elastic section in the
waist made them super comfortable. With the
testing so far, it looks like they wash well too which
is important. Cheaper items we have bought in
the past have faded quickly and the reflective has
come off. These items look equally as robust as
the higher gsm products we have bought from you
before.”
The World’s first environmentally declared garment
collection
Fristads is the first company in the world to
measure the environmental impact of clothes. Fristads
Green is a concept of work wear where the entire
manufacturing chain is characterized by environmental
awareness and innovation to minimize the footprint on
the environment.
Fristads’ aim is to make the Green concept a part
of every product segment in the next coming years. All
Fristads Green products have an HYPERLINK “https://
(EPD) with information about the product’s total
environmental impact, resulting in the company
being awarded the international design prize
Red Dot Award: Design Concept.
Water Scarcity Footprint (WSF) is a
measurement of the potential environmental
impact of water consumption. It considers
the relative availability of water in a particular
geographical area.
Global Warming Potential (GWP) describes
the ability of different greenhouse gases to
trap heat in the atmosphere over time, relative
to carbon dioxide. To compare the effect on
global warming of different gases, the values
are converted to carbon dioxide equivalents.
There is a Green Calculator on the Fristads
website which can help you quantify the
positive impact you would make on the
environment if you were to choose the
Eco range from Fristads when you next buy
uniform.
RED have selected a range of items from the
new Fristads Green “Eco” Range to introduce
to their stocked lines which will have particular
appeal to recovery operators:
