Kenneth, it’s around four months since
you joined QPR. How are you finding the
Championship, compared with Dutch football?
It’s a very big difference, to be honest. I think
first of all the number of games – there are a
lot more of them but there’s also the intensity.
In Holland we are used to playing one game
a week, Saturday to Saturday – now I have to
do Saturday-Tuesday or Saturday-Wednesday
most weeks and that’s the biggest difference.
In my first couple of weeks here I had to get
used to the intensity of the training and also
the physicality of the league itself, but now I’m
feeling like I’m used to the Championship and I’m
happy with that.
Have you always been the kind of full-back who
likes to get forward, or is that a more recent
addition to your game?
I’ve always been a full-back that’s offensivelyminded
– basically that’s just me and the
approach I take. So it’s not new but I want to
make sure I improve every day, every week, every
training session and every game.
You’ve supplied quite a few assists for goals
already – and scored one yourself recently with
that header against Cardiff. How did it feel to
get off the mark for QPR?
Of course it’s always nice to score your first goal
for a new club. It was a nice goal as well and a
good move. I’ve set some targets for myself, to
be involved in goals or assists and I think so far
I’ve notched three assists and one goal. That’s a
good start but I definitely want more.
Was there a particular player you modelled
your style on when you were growing up in the
Netherlands?
Yes, my idol was Ronaldinho because I was not
a left-back at that time. I was playing mostly as
a winger or number 10 so he was the one – but
when I changed to playing left-back I was always
watching Marcelo from Real Madrid.
