long time ago now so I can’t really remember
particular games he played in, but what I do know
is he’s nearly 35 now and he still plays in the
Championship! That means he must still be very
fit and a very good player.
Surprisingly, West Brom have struggled so far
this season, but having recently appointed
a new manager in Carlos Corberan, can we
expect them to raise their game?
Yes. I’ve watched a couple of their games on TV
and their results may not have been that good
but they are a good team and I don’t think they
will stay at the bottom of the table. They have
a new manager so they’ll be looking to bounce
back and they’ll be coming for us today – it’s our
job to keep them down there a little longer.
By contrast, our start to the season has been
a strong one overall. Was there one particular
game when everyone suddenly realised we
might be able to compete with the top teams in
this league?
I’m going to say Sheffield United. It was a very
tough game for us and maybe it wasn’t our best
game in terms of when we had the ball. But
defensively we were very strong as a team, we did
everything well and it was a good result to win at
their place. That was the game where we showed
our intentions and showed the whole country that
we can compete at the top of the Championship.
Including today, we’ve got three games left
before the season is placed on hold for the
World Cup. It’d be nice to reach that stage on a
good run of form…
I think it’s very important that we end strongly
before the break. It doesn’t mean the rest of the
season is going to be easy, of course – but it can
send out a message again and we’re in a good
position to do that.
