The next exercise in this lesson is a chromatic scale that starts at the open G string and extends up to
A on the fifth fret of string 1. The note A is played by shifting the hand position up one fret so that
the fourth finger can reach the fifth fret. The technique of shifting is commonly used in more
advanced playing.
BE SURE TO USE ALTERNATION IN THE RIGHT HAND.

In the next exercise, let the bass notes ring throughout the entire measure. Many times in guitar
music the bass notes sound better if they are allowed to sustain longer than their written value.
