CHEMICAL FIRST AID AT WORK<br />
This four-hour course will be delivered by registered paramedics who teach Paramedic<br />
Sciences in Higher Education. <strong>The</strong> staff delivering this course also have experience in<br />
working in Hazardous Area Response Teams, so are trained, and experienced in dealing<br />
with casualties who are affected by Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and<br />
Explosive (CBRNE) environments.<br />
Chemical First Aid at Work course (CFAW) suggested content:<br />
• Understand the epidemiology of chemical injuries.<br />
• Identify scene danger and keep yourself safe.<br />
• Immediately manage chemical injuries to the skin.<br />
• Immediately manage chemical injuries to the eyes.<br />
• Immediately manage the inhalation of chemicals.<br />
• Immediately manage needle-stick injuries.<br />
• Understand the value and limitations of your organisations<br />
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).<br />
• Report adverse events and understand the follow up process.<br />
Following successful completion of the course, attendees will be assessed, and presented with a Chemical<br />
First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years.<br />
<strong>The</strong> content of this bespoke chemical first aid programme can be tailored to address the most<br />
commonly used chemicals in your organisation. Also, to address the PPE that is available in<br />
your organisation. For example, if you use hydrofluoric acid – we will cover this. If you use<br />
liquid nitrogen, we will cover this. If your staff wear respirators – we can cover them specifically.<br />
