BASE CAMP
▲ Konrad Baur is reaping the rewards of its business strategy.
us feel extremely positive.”
4X4 FOR MORE
A movement towards 4x4-style
campervans has been building
momentum for several years
now with those looking to
utilise RVs for their outdoor
adventures buying them in good
numbers. By its very nature –
due to the slightly more extreme
places people use them, and
the high cost of these vehicles
– it would be natural to expect
that a plateau might be reached
sometime soon in terms of sales.
Premium German campervan
manufacturer Alphavan is
attempting to re-stimulate that
market and attract a previously
untapped corner of potential
customers for this type of leisure
vehicle with its new Active Line.
This new van brings a groundbreaking
layout in a panel
van that has never been seen
before in the campervan class
in conjunction with a payload
capacity at benchmark level.
As a 4x4 vehicle with a gross
vehicle weight of 4.1 tons, the
Alphavan “Active Line” allows
a payload of up to 700kg. The
newly created FlexPort with
its dimensions of 225cm x
170cm x 131cm (almost 5,000
litres) allows the storage of
two Enduro bikes including
equipment and tool cases. At
the same time, the multi-awardwinning
living space in the
front area of the Alphavan is
not constraint as compared to
the former Alphavan concept.
The FlexPort is something
Alphavan says has set itself
the goal of reaching customer
groups who would not have
yet switched to a panel van
campervan due to the space
available.
In its early days, it has
received high praise indeed
from Hard Enduro World
Champion and KTM works
rider Manuel Lettenbichler,
who said: “What the guys
from Alphavan have created
here absolutely surpasses
anything I’ve seen in this class
of campervans so far. While I
store my two enduro machines
and all the material and tools
in the back, a hotel room of the
extra class with all amenities
awaits me in the front. As a 4x4
vehicle with my machines in the
back, nothing can stop me now.
And Alphavan’s Starlink system
allows me to produce my stories
on the go and be connected to
everyone. Dope!” Dope, indeed.
