New Oasis: Making The Most Of U.S. Hardwoods In Flooring At New Oasis in Banfu, China, American Red Oak is purchased to make solid wood flooring. It is preferred by the more wealthy customers and developers of luxury real estate.” – James Ho, Sales Director, New Oasis Banfu, China–A couple of hours drive out of Guangzhou within this small town is the plant of Zhongshan New Oasis Wood Industry Co. Ltd. (known simply as New Oasis). The company is essentially a flooring company that is diversifi ed in many respects and a member of the larger Susfor-Oasis Wood (Zhongshan) Co. Ltd. group, which also operates overseas forest resources. Manufacturing both solid wood and engineered fl ooring, the New Oasis plant in Banfu procures hardwood species from all over the world, including American Red and White Oak, Walnut, Hard Maple, Elm, Ash and Hickory. The company also produces fl ooring from species as far away as Brazil, such as Ipe and from local species like Chinese “Teak.” Marketing is also diversifi ed with about 55 percent of sales made domestically in China by an army of sales staff through retail outlets and directly to developers in China’s property market. The balance of 45 percent is shipped to a diverse range of as many as 30 international markets, particularly Australia, India, the Middle East and the U.S., but with current targets also in Europe and elsewhere. The parent group is engaged in manufacturing building products such as doors, stairs and cabinets, maintaining marketing offi ces in the United States, Europe and the United Arab Emirates. The fl ooring production itself represents diversity with an array of fi nishes in several series with many colors, including hand-scraped, distressed and brushed surfaces in narrow and wide boards, as well as custom and standard parquet panels. The company, now quoted on the Hong Kong stock exchange (Stock Code: HK-00692), is about 16 years old and situated on a spacious site in the town itself.
