NOTABLE MENTIONS
Jana Bonghi and Zarrin Tasnim, the GW Student Nurses Association’s (SNA) President and Historian, respectively,
represented the GW School of Nursing as attendees at the 2022 National Student Nurses Association Annual (NSNA)
Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Deb Cardenas, DNP ’18, became the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) President, effective June 29, 2021.
Doctoral student DeeDee Foster was selected to represent GW Nursing at the Eastern Nursing Research Society 34th
Annual Scientific Sessions. With assistance from her professor, Dr. Pearl Zhou, Ms. Foster presented her DNP Scholarly
Project on “Structured Type 2 Diabetes Education to Improve Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose, Self-Care Management,
and Diabetes Knowledge in a Multicultural Family Practice Clinic.”
Monica Joiner, a 2021 graduate of the GW Nursing Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Program,
received the STTI Phi Epsilon Chapter Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice.
GW Nursing doctoral student, Caroline Kemp, M.S.N., FNP-BC, presented a webinar titled
“School-Based Mental Health Policy Analysis: Stories From the Frontlines”
for the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) School Health & Wellness section.
Ph.D. student Christine Riley presented at the American College of Cardiology Annual Conference. In addition to
moderating the session “Cardiac ICU: Team-Based Approaches to Complex Patients and sitting on the expert panel,
Christine will present on using team-based approaches to proactively prevent cardiac arrest in critically ill children with
underlying cardiac conditions.
Congratulations to Cohort 24 graduate Erin Waterman commissioned in March 2022 and now serving as the U.S.
Navy’s newest nurse.
