European<br />
based<br />
regulations on<br />
airworthiness<br />
of aircraft<br />
A Meeting under the patronage of<br />
South Asia Regional Initiative<br />
(SARI) was organised at Jinnah<br />
I’nal <strong>Air</strong>port from 28 to 30<br />
August, 2012 . The purpose of<br />
the Meeting was to formulate<br />
<strong>Air</strong>craft <strong>Air</strong>worthiness<br />
regulations in line with EASA<br />
(European Aviation Safety<br />
Agency). The regulations<br />
encompassing various facets of<br />
airworthiness would not only<br />
bring a positive improvement in<br />
the aviation safety but would also<br />
give acceptance to our aviation<br />
maintenance in South Asia.<br />

Director <strong>Air</strong>worthiness of Civil<br />
Aviation Authority of Pakistan<br />
had invited the SARI<br />
Coordinator, Mr. Eric Dormoy to<br />
facilitate a team of experts on<br />
formulation of Regulations. The<br />
keenness of local <strong>Air</strong>lines and<br />
other <strong>Air</strong> Operators in achieving<br />
safety in skies was evident from<br />
their sizeable participation.<br />
On this occasion, DG CAA Capt<br />
Nadeem Khan Yousafzai<br />
reiterated a resolve of the<br />
Authority in recognizing the<br />
tremendous responsibilities<br />
placed on its shoulders in<br />
reducing the risk to safety in<br />
Aviation. He emphasised upon<br />
the experts to formulate the<br />
regulations with focused<br />
attention on safety through<br />
<strong>Air</strong>worthiness of aircraft. Deputy<br />
Director General CAA, <strong>Air</strong> Vice<br />
Marshal Junaid Siddiqui and<br />
other senior management of CAA<br />
was also present on the occasion.<br />

<strong>Air</strong> Commodore Muhammad Zia<br />
Khan of Pakistan Civil Aviation<br />
Authority inaugurated the<br />
meeting and welcomed the<br />
foreign and local aviation<br />
industry experts. He thanked all<br />
the Participants who had gathered<br />
for a common objective of safe,<br />
secure and sustainable air<br />
transport environment in<br />
Pakistan. On the occasion,<br />
EASA/SARI Project In charge<br />
Engr Nayyar Faruqui emphasized<br />
the CAA experts to come up with<br />
suggestions which could add to<br />
safety and productivity, while<br />
subscribing to good work ethics.<br />
He further informed the<br />
participants on the Regulation on<br />
<strong>Air</strong>craft Maintenance<br />
Organisations, which are likely to<br />
be put up for implementation in<br />
the current year.<br />
Mr Eric conveyed his satisfaction<br />
on the progress made by CAA<br />
Pakistan in preparation of<br />
Regulations on Maintenance,<br />
Training and Licensing. He<br />
further requested CAA Pakistan<br />
to provide assistance through its<br />
experts in strengthening the<br />
forum of SARI. He desired that<br />
Pakistan would participate in the<br />
forthcoming Meeting in Dhaka.<br />
Turkish<br />
<strong>Air</strong>lines<br />
recorded 164<br />
million TRY<br />
net profit in<br />
the first half<br />
year of 2012.<br />
First half year sales revenue<br />
increased by 36%, reaching to 6,7<br />
billion TRY.<br />
Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines’ 1H 2012<br />
consolidated financial statements<br />
were reported to Istanbul Stock<br />
Exchange. Compared to the same<br />
period of 2011, sales revenue<br />
increased by 36%, reaching to 6,7<br />
billion TRY. Net profit increased<br />
by %142 to 164 million TRY.<br />
Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines achieved<br />
stronger first and second quarter<br />
results, compared to the same<br />
periods of last year. Despite the<br />
reported loss due to seasonal<br />
factors in the first quarter of the<br />
year, with the help of strong<br />
performance in the second<br />
quarter, Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines posted<br />
profit in the first half of the year.<br />
Having net operating profit of<br />
271 million TRY in the second<br />
quarter, Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines posted<br />
52 million TRY net operating<br />
profit for the first half of 2012.<br />
Looking through the traffic<br />
results, Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines carried<br />
total of 18 million passengers<br />
with an increase of 20%.<br />
Available Seat Km (ASK) and<br />
Revenue Per Km (RPK) went up<br />
by 19% and 24%, respectively.<br />
Passenger Load Factor was 5,7<br />
points up to 75,2%. Int’l to Int’l<br />
transfer passengers’ share in total<br />
Int’l passengers increased 4<br />
points, reaching to 39%.<br />
According to the statistics<br />
published by International <strong>Air</strong><br />
Transport Association (IATA),<br />
global aviation sector posted<br />
passenger, ASK and RPK growth<br />
of approximately 7%, 6,5% and<br />
4,7% respectively.<br />
In the first half year of 2012, total<br />
number of international<br />
destinations went up to 157, with<br />
addition of 8 new destinations to<br />
network. By increase of 19<br />
aircrafts during the first half of<br />
the year, Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines fleet<br />
reached to 194 aircraft in total,<br />
out of which were 151 narrow<br />
body, 37 wide body and 6 cargo.<br />
As like the year 2011, being<br />
selected by Skytrax as the "Best<br />
<strong>Air</strong>line in Europe" in 2012,<br />
Turkish <strong>Air</strong>lines continues to<br />
maintain its successful<br />
performance with its strong<br />
financial structure and high<br />
quality service concept.<br />

accident statistician and former<br />
NBAA Director Robert E.<br />
Breiling will receive the 2012<br />
NBAA John P. “Jack” Doswell<br />
Award.<br />
Breiling will receive his award<br />
during NBAA’s 65th Annual<br />
Meeting & Convention, to be<br />
held Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 in Orlando,<br />
FL, at the Orange County<br />
Convention Center and Orlando<br />
Executive <strong>Air</strong>port.<br />
