Mark grew up in Hamilton, taking off to the deep
south to complete his Degree in Civil Engineering
as a recipient of the Downer Engineering
Scholarship. He started his time as a graduate
engineer at the Huntly Power Station before leaping
over the Tasman to West Australia, working on a
large-scale mining project.
With a bit of money in his pocket, he then
enjoyed a long stint travelling through South and
Central America and ended up in London, where he
plied his trade on various large-scale construction
roles.
Then came the London Olympics – he may
not have been invited as an athlete, but his civil
engineering skills were in high demand – ending
up as a Project Manager, leading a large team to
deliver on Olympic infrastructures with a hard
deadline.
Flip to a FIFO role in Papua New Guinea
developing a pipeline with strong community
engagement, and Construction Manager in the Bay
for a local contractor, the breadth and depth of
Mark’s experience that he brings to the wider Bay of
Plenty cannot be underestimated.
SHARED VISION
For the Rangiuru Business Park, Mark is leading
the engagement with Tapuika (mana whenua of
the land) and other iwi to ensure we execute our
vision together – both in terms of social outcomes,
environmental goals, cultural master plan and
commercial opportunities.
The wetlands will be an outstanding example of
this collaboration – with 50 hectares of stormwater
ponds, the Park has aspirations to deliver a wetland
reserve with approximately 400,000 nursery plants
(a venture with Tapuika), firmly stamping a vision of
quality and commitment for the Rangiuru Business
Park from all angles – environmental, social and
cultural.
Mark strives to create outcomes that are not
only beneficial for all parties, but sustainablefocused.
Mark completed his Master of
Engineering Science (Project Management) in 2017
with a focus on sustainability and property.
While commercial outcomes are important,
Mark strongly aligns to Quayside’s own values that
‘we do work we’re proud to stand by’, providing
results that are more than just about the bottom
line. These values are driven by being Dad to two
small tamariki.
Mark loves a music concert, a beer, mountain
biking and hanging out with the kids at the beach.
He is also one of the main culprits of Quayside’s
mountain of coffee beans we get through each
week - every hui deserves a coffee to accompany
it, according to Mark!
Mark says, of working and living in the Bay,
“Being part of a significant project for the Bay of
Plenty, where my family and I live, and where the
prospects for positive outcomes for the community
are substantial, strongly aligns with my values.
