battle for World Cup
2030
Saudi Arabia and Morocco are both
vying to host the FIFA World Cup
2030, with each planning to submit
their own individual bids. While
Morocco has announced a joint bid with
Spain and Portugal, it has also expressed
interest in launching its own bid for the
tournament. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
has said that the country is ready to host
the World Cup on its own, following its
successful hosting of the Dakar Rally and
the Italian Super Cup. The two countries
will be in competition with other potential
bidders, including the United Kingdom
and Ireland, Argentina, Uruguay, and
Paraguay, and a joint bid from Greece,
Bulgaria, Serbia, and Romania.
Ras Al Khaimah hosts
UAE Minifootball
World Cup
The United Arab Emirates
hosted the 2023 Minifootball
World Cup in Ras Al Khaimah,
with thousands of fans and
players attending. The tournament,
which ran from March 31 to April 9,
featured 48 teams from around the
world, including the United States,
Brazil, and Mexico. Minifootball, also
known as 6-a-side football, is played
on a smaller pitch with smaller goals
and fewer players than traditional
football. The event was a celebration of
sports, with music, entertainment, and
cultural experiences for visitors. The
UAE is rapidly emerging as a leading
destination for sports events, having
previously hosted the FIFA Club World
Cup, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and
the Dubai World Cup.
Lionel Messi Visits Saudi Arabia as Tourism Ambassador
Lionel Messi, the PSG star and
World Cup winner, visited Saudi
Arabia last month in his role as a
brand ambassador for the Saudi
Tourist Board. The announcement of
his visit was made by the Kingdom’s
Minister of Tourism, Ahmed al-Khateeb,
on social media. Messi’s visit was his
second to the Kingdom, after attending
events in Jeddah in May of last year. As
a tourism ambassador for Visit Saudi, he
is contracted to promote the Kingdom’s
attractions and travel reforms.
Skyexch.net named title sponsor for LLC Masters
2023 in Doha
Sports goods platform Skyexch.
net has been named as the
title sponsor of the Legends
League Cricket (LLC) Masters
tournament, held in Doha from March
10-20. LLC features T20 format matches
played between retired international
cricketers. As part of the sponsorship
deal, Skyexch.net was part of all
communications and campaigns
around the LLC Masters. LLC CEO
and co-founder Raman Raheja said the
partnership helps the tournament reach
new heights, and that Skyexch.net
shares a vision of assisting cricket in
all formats to reach a global audience.
