IS YOUR
ESTATE PLAN
COMPLETE?
Often when you read articles
or attend seminars on Estate
planning, the need to have a
complete and up-to-date Will is
emphasized. However, the details
of what to do with the Will are
often neglected. Equally important
is the need to have your documents
readily available for your executors
and heirs in order to provide the
opportunity to settle your Estate, which means it should be
organized in a concise fashion.
Often the best option is to use a filing system, for example,
an expandable file folder, or a binder with plastic sleeves
that can be used to hold all the documents necessary for settling
one’s Estate.
And what are those documents?
• Wills
• Marriage certificate,
• Insurance policies, both life and property
• Deed to your property
• Financial statements, including account numbers and
contact information
• Names of your lawyer, accountant, financial advisor,
and doctor
Also include photocopies of personal documents:
by Gord Baptist
• Social Insurance card
• Health Card
• Birth certificates
• A list of your passwords
• Your own personal information and name(s) of your
executor(s)
You can even include specifications about your funeral
service. If your funeral is pre-arranged then include the information
of whom to contact to help complete your funeral
details.
Most important, let your executors know where your file is.
Give your family the blessing of having your legacy provided
in a simple, concise manner.
Through our partnership with Advisors with Purpose, you
are also able to obtain a comprehensive written plan that
outlines your own Estate situation, at no cost to you. If you
would like to hear more about this opportunity or have any
general inquiries, please contact me using the information
below.
