Police warn victim

The Burnham householder
told the Selwyn Times police said
not to get his hopes up over the
DNA testing.
“Their words were: ‘It’s not like
you see on television where they
can get DNA off this and that
and everything else’,’’ he said.
In the Tai Tapu burglary, the
homeowner found an axe had
been left at the scene when he
returned home to find his house
had been broken into.
His home security camera
captured the distinctive van
leaving his property. A car was
also stolen, which was captured
being driven off, meaning there
was more than one offender at
this burglary.
Police appear to not have
enough evidence to make an
arrest yet.
Selwyn Times sent questions
to Selwyn police headquarters
in Rolleston about the DNA
testing. They did not respond.

WHEN DAVID Littlefair was
a boy in England he was all
for Mecano – but now he has
retired it is Lego all the way.
The 72-year-old from Lincoln
is putting the final touches on
his version of a Disney theme
park to go on display at the
Christchurch Brick Show this
weekend.
“I was a Mecano boy right
from when I was 10 and I’ve
carried that interest through my
life . . . and when I retired in
2015 I just got into Lego then,”
Littlefair said.
“My younger brother had
Lego but I never really played it.”
After going to the 2015 brick
show he bought his first Lego set
and hasn’t looked back.
“My partner says: ‘Not
another parcel’ when I’m buying
bits and pieces.”
His garage is lined with Lego
boxes, some of which are sets
he has not had a chance to build
yet.
Littlefair started off with Lego
kit sets but over time he has
learned how to create his own
models. He had his first exhibit
at the brick show in 2021.
“I take the Lego models and
adapt them to how I might want
to feature them in a display. I

also just buy parts and come up
with my own creations.
“Lego for me is much
more creative than Mecano
was, which is much more
engineering stuff.”
Littlefair estimated his latest
display was about 50 per cent
existing Lego sets and 50 per
cent his own creation.
After the show, he said he
would already be thinking about
the next display and spends
about four months building his
models. His theme park features
a Disney castle, train, and some
motorised rides, including a
roller coaster, ferris wheels,
dodgems, and a merry-goround.
