DAN CARTER’S DC10 charity
fund will be boosted by about
$14,000 after a pair of the All
Black legend’s boots, and oneoff
Pasikifa day jerseys, were
auctioned on Saturday.
Southbridge hosted the day
with the jerseys worn by the
division 1 and 2 sides. The club
has a strong Pacific presence.
Carter, the club’s most famous
son, donated a pair of his limited
edition Adidas boots. They were
secured for $9500 by a Selwyn
company which has been a great
supporter of rugby, Southbridge
club manager Chris McMillan
said.
The jerseys fetched about
$5500, which after costs of running
the day and auction came
off, would mean a good payday
for the charity, he said.
The DC10 fund is supported
by UNICEF and raises money
to deliver disaster-resilient water
and sanitation projects in the

“I’ve just got off the phone
with him. He was absolutely
blown away. He said it was
‘just awesome’.”

was a great event with cultural
activities adding to the
flavour of the division
1 and 2 matches

Record number of
swimmers qualify
for national champs
SELWYN SWIM Club is
continuing to build on its
success in the lead up to the
New Zealand short course
championships.
Fifteen swimmers from the
club have qualified for the meet
from August 8-12 – a record
for the club. The swimmers are
looking forward to flying to
Hastings to race against the best
of the best in New Zealand.
Selwyn finished fifth overall
at the South Island short course
champs last weekend – the club’s
highest ever placing at a South
Island meet. Much of its success
was due to the supportive team
environment at the club and the
hard work the swimmers have
put in during training.
Coaches Ben Close and
Hannah Bates have helped them
achieve new goals this year.
