Embracing your inner child
“It is different from what it was
– there is so much you can do,”
said De Vries.
“There is no wrong way to
build with Lego Bricks, it is your
idea you are building.”
Hub Hornby senior centre
manager Jason Marsden said the
community mall hosted a creative,
artistic and hands-on event
each year.
“This really ticks all of the
boxes. There has been an amazing
turn out here of adults and
kids alike, it is relaxing, and it is
cool to see people relax here,” he
said. Marsden thinks the event
will only get busier as the week
goes on as it provides a good opportunity
for people to come and
go as they please – especially as
it is free.
“It is good to see people focus
on something that is more tactical
than technological-based.
We’ll definitely bring this event
back in the future.”
De Vries said House of Bricks
also hosts several community
events, such as smaller versions
of the Christchurch Brick Show,
and would love to get more
people involved.
“It is part of what we do to
inspire people to be creative,
and inspire creative children to
continue to be who they are so
they can go on to fill those creative
jobs.”
Cathy Stevenson lives just
down the road from Hub Hornby
and was enjoying the Lego
Bricks.
“We came here for a haircut,
but we had to wait for it, so this
was ideal to do while we waited,”
she said.
open from 10am-2pm
today and tomorrow
DROP-OFF: A plan to stop the No 125 bus from going to
the Christchurch Airport terminal has been dropped.
‘Totally silly to go near
the airport but not to it’
•From page 1
The spokesperson said when
tourism returns to the same level
as before Covid-19, capacity will
become an issue, but ECan will
address this as required and the
125 bus will operate as normal.
Said the spokesperson:
“According to data from recent
months, an average of around
1000 people per day use route
125 on weekdays, with the total
number of passengers for the
full month of June 2023 being
27,138.”
The bus travels through
Halswell, Westlake to Redwood
and stops at the Hub Hornby,
Russley, Christchurch Airport,
Bishopdale Village Mall, and
Northlands.
Moore said keeping the
airport stop means passengers
have retained access to the
airport for $2 or less.
“I was quite perplexed when
hearing the reason for the move
while I was looking at a mostly
empty bus terminal. I thought
it was totally silly to go near the
airport but not to it.”
Moore said he has caught the
bus many times. The airport
terminal stop was usually empty
and the bus would only stop at
the airport for about 30 seconds
before moving on, he said.
“I was told the bus terminal
area was at capacity and couldn’t
handle any additional routes,
but it looked empty most times
when I was there, so hence my
confusion as to why this stop
would be removed.”
He credited Swiggs for his
hard work.
“Many are not aware that
this bus route to the airport
is available to them, so now
hopefully it will get used more
now that people are being made
aware,” Moore said.
