God Wills Our Good
has seemed good in Your sight. When anything disagreeable
happens, remember it comes from God and say at once,
“This comes from God” and be at peace: I was dumb and
opened not my mouth because You have done it. Lord, since
You have done this, I will be silent and accept it.
Direct all your thoughts and prayers to this end: to beg
God constantly in meditation, Communion, and visits
to the Blessed Sacrament that He help you accomplish
His holy will.
Here St. Alphonsus offers us very practical advice.
When we pray, when we visit Him in the Blessed
Sacrament, we should beg God to help us to
embrace His will. How can we do this? A simple
fervent prayer will suffice: “Lord, I know that
You love me and that all You will is for my good.
Please help me to embrace Your will and thus to
know union with You and peace in this life and
in the next.”
Form the habit of offering yourself frequently to God
by saying, “My God, behold me in Your presence. Do with
me, and all that I have, as is pleasing to you.”
We can also adapt another prayer derived from St.
Alphonsus’s meditations on the Stations of the
Cross: “I love You, Jesus my love; grant that I might
love You always, and do with me what You will.”
