New venue for annual art exhibition
THE SUMNER Art Society is
holding its annual exhibition this
weekend.
Previously held at the Redcliffs
Bowling Club, it will be at the Mt
Pleasant Yacht Club this year for
the first time.
The clubrooms are where art
society members meet each
Wednesday morning to work on
their art, enjoy companionship
and share creative ideas.
Established in 1959, the art
society has about 45 members.
Well-known members who
will be exhibiting include Adrienne
Pavelka, who works with
watercolours; Maxine Burney,
who has a studio at The Arts
Centre and paints with acrylics;
and award-winning artist Geri
Parawa, whose medium is ink,
which she uses to create fluid,
vibrant artworks.
One of her Parawa’s works will
be raffled at the exhibition (the
other prize is a hamper).
Others who have been busy
preparing for the exhibition
are Sharon Soderberg-White,
who uses acrylic fluid pouring
to produce hand-embellished
works, and Suzanne Roberts,
who creates collages, often of
veteran cars. Gaye McElroy
works with oils on canvas, painting
figurative mannequins, while
Barry Mattingley paints detailed,
semi-impressionist landscapes
in acrylics. Pencils and pastels
are the favoured mediums Rose
Croft, who creates portraits using
pastels.
Exhibition organiser Kilmeny
Keyse paints in oils on canvas
and her subjects include
landscapes, while Rae Manson
prefers acrylics and her subjects
often have a musical theme or
are abstracts.
• The free exhibition is
open from 10am to 5pm
on Saturday and Sunday.
