CRANBROOK JUNIORS FC
Family Fun Day II
The weather on Saturday 1 July was
a little overcast but that couldn’t
dampen the anticipation for
Cranbrook Juniors Football Club’s
second Family Fun Day. Rammell
Field came alive from 8.00am, as all the
planning that began in January 2023 finally
came to fruition.
The day’s schedule revolved around
football, fun and family. Stalls were set up;
our inflatable football pitch took shape
and the bouncy castles started attracting
attention.
From 9.00am, football games were
underway, including mini-tournaments
for all age groups. The inflatable football
pitch, generously purchased for us by one
of our sponsors, Mortgage Advice Bureau,
caught everyone’s attention –some parents
even seemed envious, wanting to have a go
themselves! The joyful shouts and screams
of children brightened up the day, and soon
enough the sun made a welcome appearance.
The older children were having their
own tournaments and the friendly, but ever
so slightly competitive atmosphere, was
obvious… and that was just between the
managers! The children’s support for each
other was heartwarming, reflecting the true
inclusivity of our club.
The stalls ranged from family games to
tombola, glitter tattoos and face painting.
Refreshments flowed all day and the arrival
of the ice cream van was with perfect timing
as the sun had decided it was going to stick
around.
Before the grand finale, the highly
anticipated Parents vs. Coaches match,
there was a brilliant display from the Fusion
Cheerleaders. The game itself was a close-run
thing and we believe there were no major
injuries or sore muscles on Sunday morning.
The only casualty was one pair of ripped
shorts as the result of an over-zealous kick!
As I wandered around soaking up the
atmosphere, I saw countless smiles on the
faces of both parents and children, making
all the hard work worthwhile. Events like
this require a lot of planning and support,
and without our dedicated volunteers, it
simply wouldn’t have been possible. So,
a massive and heartfelt “thank you” goes
out to all of them! As the list would be too
long to include here, we will be expressing
our gratitude separately to all those who
provided refreshments and food, as well as
our invaluable sponsors.
Planning for the 2024 Family Fun Day will
commence in the early part of next year.
We are aiming to make it even bigger and
more enjoyable, so we urge volunteers to
come forward well in advance! But for now,
let’s relish the upcoming 2023–24 season,
particularly with the exciting addition of our
first two girls’ teams (U10 & U12).
