How to Navigate 2024
Charlotte Winship offers her advice on guiding your wedding business
through a rapidly evolving landscape
GETTY IMAGES
Like each new year, 2024 brings uncertainty.
What we can be certain about is that
whatever is happening in the world, people
want to celebrate important life events in
some way or another (legally!).
The wedding industry has always been
exciting; filled with ideas, innovations and
creativity sparked by new generations of
couples and their changing behaviours, trends
and expectations. Sometimes it can feel a bit
overwhelming for venues to keep up with this
constant evolution and it can be a challenge to
continuously stay on our toes ready to pivot,
adjust and adapt.
Let your vision and values lead you
It’s important to stay authentic so start the year
reminding yourselves of your vision and values
and plan your year strategically to ensure that
your goals and actions align with this. Spend
time reviewing what brought you into this
industry and what keeps you here. What do you
love and enjoy most about weddings? What are
your strengths? What type of weddings do you
want to see more of? Who are the people that
you want to work with? How do you, your venue
and the services you offer meet these?
The UK wedding market is not generic. Your
values and your venue are unlikely to appeal to
everyone. Acknowledge this and be very specific
in your marketing and communication strategy
about who you are and who it is that you want
to book your venue. Consider the language
and imagery you are using in your marketing
campaigns. How are you expressing your values
and the unique qualities of your venue? Is your
venue inviting to everyone?
5

6VENUES
Make each couple feel valued and special
You’ve shared information about yourself and
your venue that has drawn the couple’s interest
but now it’s time to listen to their requirements
and show that you understand and can meet
their expectations. No couple wants to feel that
they are a commodity in a wedding factory so
how are you going to help them have a unique
wedding day that is very personal to them?
The world is filled with extraordinarily diverse
people and each couple and their guests will
have a unique set of expectations influenced
by their social and ethnic backgrounds, their
gender and sexual orientation, abilities and
disabilities. How inclusive are you? How do
you communicate this so that everyone feels
welcomed at your venue?
Let the robots do the work
In our desire to remain authentic, we are
increasingly reliant on synthetic devices. AI
(artificial intelligence) is being spoken about
everywhere and has already quietly infiltrated
almost every aspect of our lives. This might fill
you with fear (particularly those of you who
remember the Terminator!) but AI does have the
power to do good and help our businesses.
If you have anything to do with marketing
then you will already have experienced AI
working across social media platforms and
search engines helping audiences find content
and capturing data to help us be strategic in our
marketing activity. Staying ahead of the everchanging
algorithms can be a full-time job but
when you get it right it’s a powerful marketing
tool.
AI is also now being used more widely to help
us create content as well as reach audiences with
apps such as ChatGPT writing for us and DeepAI
generating images (I assure you this article was
not written by a bot!). This is particularly useful
if you have the occasional writers block or are
missing an image for Instagram.
The most exciting development in AI is in
helping us with our workflow. As your bookings
increase so too does your workload. Hiring extra
staff to keep on top of administrative tasks may
not be viable. An alternative solution could be
to integrate software that can help automate
GETTY IMAGES

ookings, billing and information gathering;
improving efficiency and communication
between your team and your clients.
Everyone is a content creator
The ongoing development of social media
continues to astound me, particularly our desire
to be part of the content and not just bystanders.
This has created a new phenomenon of Wedding
Content Creators. Professionals who can be
hired to capture the whole day from behind-thescenes
action to those special wedding moments
so that couples can share them with their wider
audience within 24 hours of their wedding day.
They don’t replace the expertise of wedding
photographers and videographers but they can
produce short-form videos and stills specifically
designed for social media content.
This trend could have benefits for wedding
venues by helping to raise their profile and reach
a wider audience without having to take any
direct action themselves. There may be risks
however in not being able to control the content
and how your venue is presented to the wider
world. Good communication and relationships
with your couples is important so you are kept
aware of all their wedding plans and plans to
document it!
Recruitment has been a major challenge for
the wedding and events industry and historically
we have been neglectful of the wellbeing of
our staff. I have (mostly happy) memories from
my twenties and thirties of working endlessly
long days with a few hours’ sleep in between.
Somehow I survived but I recognise that this
lifestyle is not sustainable and work-life balance
is important not only for our physical health but
our mental health too. We need to look after
each other and leave robotic working to AI!
Good communication and
relationships with your couples
is important so you are kept aware of
all their wedding plans and
plans to document it!
GETTY IMAGES
VENUES
Supporting and sustaining one another
This year I am also focusing on sustainability
not only in terms of the environment but
also in how we continue to sustain our
human resources and financial viability of
weddings and events. Money is a significant
driver for all of us. The cost of living is high
and other economic factors are impacting
our businesses and our customers’ budgets
so it is important that we remain vigilant of
costs.
enquiries@bondfabrications.co.uk
www.bondfabrications.co.uk
Wilde Lodge is a stunning wedding venue in Wales
and the owners wanted a truly unique structure to
fit in a quirky space… a white marquee was not an
option!
It was great to work with Jemma and Kevin, the
solution was a bespoke sized large canvas safari tent
with traditional features yet having the structural
integrity of a permanent installation.
Jemma spoke about the process: “We contacted
Bond and were impressed with their customer
service. They came to visit our site and listened to
our business and ideas. Every time someone walks
into the tent, their reaction is always the same, ‘this
is magical’. The tent is the best asset to grow and
develop as a business. We are absolutely thrilled
with it!”
We love a challenge, and have 35 years of
experience, technical know-how and a skilled team
at Bond. We offer full design and manufacture
services using robust frames and the highest quality
fabrics. As a true British manufacturer, we pride
ourselves on exceptional quality, skilled attention
to detail and a local personal service with ongoing
support.
The family owners of the Grade 1 listed Stradey
Castle had a requirement to significantly
increase parking provision at the property in
order to facilitate expansion of its use as a venue
for weddings and functions, as well as a filming
location.
Access to a grassed area used for marquees
and as an outside space also needed to be
reinforced to prevent damage being caused by
the vehicles of caterers and other suppliers.
Due to the sensitive nature of the location,
tarmac or concrete was not desired. For both
applications, S2T Group’s PERFO-AK Anchor Tile
ground reinforcement system of interlocking,
self-anchoring tiles was selected. The car park
was created on an area of scrubland which was
cleared and levelled, a sub-base prepared at the
PERFO-AK tiles embedded into a layer of fine
crushed stone. Seeded soil was added to the
parking bays so that they would green over to
differentiate them from the manoeuvring areas.
The resulting self-draining, durable car park
blends in with the natural surroundings while
providing parking for approximately 50 cars.
Wasdale Lakehead
Product: NatSol Zero Discharge Toilets
Supplier: NatSol, 01686 412653
info@natsol.co.uk, www.natsol.co.uk
In 2018 the National Trust asked NatSol to design
and supply waterless Zero Discharge toilets for a site
at the head of Wast Water, Cumbria. This is a very
busy site for walkers who head up the fells. There
is also a campsite there, but concerns had been
raised about the existing flush toilet provision and
the risk of polluting England’s cleanest lake. The
technology installed to clean the discharge had not
been reliable.
NatSol worked with the trust and with Crosby
Granger Architects who designed the building. The
project opened to the public in July 2020 and the
toilets are functioning as designed.
NatSol originally developed the Zero Discharge
model for The Royal Parks. New toilets were needed
for a site in the Isabella Plantation, Richmond
Park, London. These Zero Discharge toilets are
pumped out by vacuum sludge tanker after
around 6,000 uses per toilet. There are now such
toilets in Wasdale along with several urinals. The
interconnected tanks collectively contain waste
from over 50,000 uses.
NatSol designed the ventilation system that
makes the cubicles completely odour-free under
normal operation. The toilet pedestals are stainless
steel with Corian tops and are coated internally with
PTFE (Teflon). Maintenance is minimal.
Skänes Djurpark is a zoological park near Malmo,
Sweden, and home to Shaun The Sheep Land,
a themed venue where families can meet the
characters from the famous Aardman Studios
animated series ‘Shaun The Sheep.’
Regency Shepherd Huts built and delivered
a huge double shepherd hut which was the first
to land on Skånes’ new luxury glamping section
of the park. The remit of the double shepherd
hut was to be sumptuous, spacious, bright and
colourful and to appeal to children of all ages.
The exterior is clad in ‘ocean blue’ corrugated tin
with a curved black roof.
The interior has three bedrooms and sleeps
seven people. It contains a kitchen, dining area
and bathroom. However the standout feature is
the high-end kid’s bunk bed.
You’ll find a plethora of blues, yellows and reds
throughout the hut, which create a wonderfully
colourful, modern theme. Also on display are
traditional Victorian quirks which are all in
keeping with the original Shaun the Sheep TV
programme.
Håkon Lund, owner/director of the park, was
extremely complimentary of the high quality
workmanship and fine attention to detail in the
double hut.
The Glamping
Industry in 2024
The future looks green, healthy, and captured on camera
according to The Canopy & Stars Glamping Market
Report 2024
Helvellyn Hut
Canopy & Stars, the leading provider of unique and
sustainable outdoor accommodation in the UK, has
released its latest glamping market report. The
Canopy & Stars Glamping Market Report 2024 is a
must read for any would-be glampsite owner, backyard
builder or treehouse dreamer.
The in-depth report looks at how a sector, once
thought of as a passing fad, has come through a
pandemic and economic downturn looking more robust
than ever. Glamping’s entry into the mainstream and
evolution in line with both socio-economic and wellness
trends leaves glamping perfectly positioned to thrive in the
new world of more conscious social media driven travel.
KEY FINDINGS
Gen Z, video and authenticity
Glamping has a fortunate position, appealing not
only to those seeking tranquillity and connection
to nature but also to a demographic searching for
visually appealing experiences for social media,
particularly on TikTok, where Canopy & Stars has
seen significant growth in the last 12 months.
This, coupled with a notable increase in site traffic
from 18–24 year olds, underscores the importance
for glamping companies to adapt product and
strategies to cater to the younger generation's
motivations and preferences.
Continued demand, the high-low, and
making a stand
The good news is that, even with economic
uncertainty, demand for glamping holidays
continues to rise. While the market has settled
after the Covid boom, Canopy & Stars reports
seeing 2022 levels maintained into 2023 and
forecasting for 2024 remains strong. Nightly rates
take focus from length of stay, group bookings see
Data shows that places
with character and flair not
only attract more guests but also
generate higher revenues
and occupancy rates
appetite for nature-focused escapes. Despite new
short-term let regulations in the UK, the industry
anticipates positive impacts, weeding out weaker
offerings and enhancing quality.
Moss Dome Cabin
a rise, and booking trends show guests are either
looking for a stand-out stay and are willing to pay
premium rates for it, or a more ‘budget’ option
that still provides connection to nature. It’s not
important which category a place sits in, only that
it provides the best experience possible within the
one it chooses.
Quality, growth areas and the impact
of regulations
The glamping industry is shifting toward quality
over quantity, with a broader geographical
spread. While the south has been the heartland,
other regions, particularly Ireland and northern
England, are catching up, driven by a growing
Building for character and comfort
In 2024, the key to success lies in breaking the
mould and prioritising character and comfort.
While the post-Covid rush led to a surge in
available listings, going forward the focus should
be on quality over quantity. Data shows that
places with character and flair not only attract
more guests but also generate higher revenues
and occupancy rates. With a growing preference
for permanent, year-round structures (cabins and
treehouses still lead), imaginative and bespoke
designs are crucial for success.
Nature becomes wellness
Wellness has become a major driver in travel,
making a seamless connection with glamping.
In 2023, it is the top travel motivator for 38% of
British adults, according to YouGov. With the
wellness tourism sector expected to grow by
nearly a quarter by 2025, the relationship between
wellness and travel is gaining strength. Meeting
wellness demands involves not just facilities, like
19

Hansel Cabin
GLAMPING
the increasingly popular saunas and hot tubs,
but also offering on-site or nearby experiences,
where nature is central to the wellness such as
wild swimming, outdoor yoga, nature-based
therapy sessions or woodland walks.
Green means go
Sustainability must be a key focus, driven
by a rising environmental consciousness.
Travel and tourism accounted for 8.1% of
global greenhouse gas emissions in 2022
and Mintel reports 75% of UK travellers
planned to minimise their environmental
impact in 2023. Consumers seek transparent
sustainability efforts from brands, emphasising
long-term projects with measurable targets.
Mere offsetting is insufficient. Sustainability
efforts should extend to financial incentives,
off-season travel, and clear labelling,
educating and informing greener choices and
encouraging continuous improvement.
Outerspace manufactures structural insulated
materials to trade customers all around the UK.
Kits are designed to produce minimal waste using
sustainable materials. No need for multiple material
times are significantly faster than timber frame buildings saving significant labour costs.
One trade client, Coalbunker, confirms the above. Having met at the Glamping Show in 2021,
Outerspace saw the company’s show building and they started talking further. 12 months later the same
building was at the 2022 glamping show but with one difference – it was built with SIPs. Here’s what
Coal Bunker’s commercial manager Chris Davies said of the kits: “SIPs have enabled us to significantly
increase our manufacturing capacity. We site build glamping pods all across the UK and the team at
Outerspace has helped us to expand and keep up with increased customer demand.”
GLAMPING
With the ever-growing demand for interesting
and eco-friendly leisure experiences, comes the
requirement for an appropriate toilet system.
Based in the grounds of the historic Chavenage
House Estate in Gloucestershire, Wild Carrot features
a selection of glamping structures and is a perfect
example. The owners concentrated on ensuring that
everything, from concept to customer experience,
is focused on ecology. Of course, this must include
appropriate toilets and waste disposal facilities.
While searching for a solution they discovered
LeeSan, the UK distributor for the Cinderella range of
incineration toilets. After consultation, the decision
was made to install Cinderella Comfort units. These
provide practical, waterless, waste disposal using a
well proven technology which has been in operation
for over 25 years.
When operated the unit automatically processes
(incinerates) the waste, leaving only a tiny amount
of inert ash which, after numerous cycles, can be
disposed of by simply tipping away outside. In this
instance, mains electricity was selected as the power
source. Bottled gas versions are available.
Located at the entrance to Carlingford Lough in
Northern Ireland is the privately owned Cranfield
Caravan Park. With its long beach frontage it offers
the perfect coastal getaway. Decking (NI) was asked
by the park owners to design and quote for the
supply and construction of low maintenance leisure
decks to complement the park’s latest range of
contemporary holiday lodges.
Given the exposed nature of the beachfront sites,
each leisure deck required a substantial structural
subframe. Deck25 solid composite decking was
used extensively for all deck surfaces and perimeter
skirting. The solid composite board was chosen for
its exceptional resistance to weathering in the salt
air environment, high slip resistance and for its 20
year structural warranty.
Sliding patio doors now open onto each
panoramic deck. Crystal clear glass panes ensure
uninterrupted views of the Irish Sea, tinted glass
panes to the sides maximise privacy. A gently
inclined wheelchair accessible boardwalk runs
along the side of each lodge, eliminating the
requirement for steps. The completed decks
surpassed the expectations of the individual lodge
owners and satisfied the park owners on all counts.
CheshireHuts has installed various huts, from
GLAMPING
Laura reached out in the autumn of
2021, with the idea of putting two pods
on her family farm in Bude, Cornwall.
After careful consideration, we advised
Laura to create just one unique and
high-end structure. We put her in
contact with an independent cabin builder and plans were quickly underway.
Laura dreamed of a hideaway that was versatile for couples, families, and friends, so designs took place for
a sleek timber cabin that slept four. We discussed the importance of USPs, so a hot tub and wood burner were
incorporated and it was decided the hideaway would also be dog friendly.
Throughout the build, our team visited several times to discuss ideas and answer any questions. We even
helped to name the cabin, to give it a unique personality. Henrosa means ‘to dream’ in the Cornish language
and we cannot think of a better fit! In June 2023 the hideaway was launched, and we experienced strong
bookings from the get-go, which continued throughout the year and into 2024.
The designer of The Red Cabin reached out to
us to help specify a suitable stove to fit with a
pared back Scandi aesthetic. The 4kW Apple
Stack in Mojave Red fits perfectly with the vibe
of the cabin and also provides ample heat. With
options to position the flu on top or to the rear of
the stove, and the ability to be as close as 50mm to
a combustible surface, it is perfect for small spaces.
Inside, the stove offers exceptional flexibility and
comes complete with a griddle plate and pizza shelf.
Wood can be stored underneath and the range includes lots
of options for additional features and colour combinations.
Ekol stoves are designed and assembled in Dorset and are among
an elite handful of small-space stoves fully compliant with DEFRA and
Ecodesign 2022, meaning they can be used to burn wood anywhere in the UK.
Product: Booking system designed for
Supplier: Outdore, 0191 821 0514
info@outdore.co.uk
www.outdore.co.uk
Outdore is a relatively new booking system,
catching the attention of small glampsites,
event organisers and exempted clubs.
Woodland Champions Club can issue a
planning exemption certificate for up to five
glamping units and 10 camping pitches. Club
secretary Ben Carden had been searching
for a suitable booking system to recommend
to member sites. The system had to be
affordable, easy-to-use and help attract direct
bookings. Ben searched for three years and
found Outdore in October 2023. In January,
after great feedback from early users, the
club decided to roll out Outdore across all
140 sites.
Woodland Champions Club issues
planning exemption certificates to
landowners enabling them to open
their land for use as a glampsite. To
date, they have helped landowners
plant over 250,000 trees, certified over
600 acres of land for their members
to enjoy, and established over 140
glamping sites across the country.
Tithe Barn Shepherd Huts worked closely with
Gumboots & Wellingtons over several months as
they considered the size and design of the first
shepherd hut they would offer at their glamping
site.
The small operation based in North Yorkshire
caters for cyclists and hikers among others and,
as with many of Tithe Barn’s customers, the large
6x2.8m hut chosen required several bespoke
items. The team at Tithe Barn also offered ongoing
support during the build.
Andrew Beale, owner at Gumboots &
Wellingtons, said: “I found Tithe Barn Shepherds
Huts while researching for our glamping business.
They gave me the confidence to self-build, as their
bespoke parts packages and advice made anything
possible. I’m a novice builder, so their step-by-step
guide has proved invaluable, with photographs for
each stage of the build. I honestly couldn’t have
done it without this guidance, and also my fatherin-law
who helped me build what is essentially
a tiny house! I highly recommend Tithe Barn
Shepherds Huts and will be placing another order
very soon.”
EVENTS
Events in 2024
What should organisers expect this season?
As we head into 2024, the event industry
is set to see some significant changes,
with new expectations and preferences
shaping the landscape. From personalised
experiences to transformative offerings and
payment plan initiatives to healthy food options,
this year promises to be one of adventure and
innovation.
GETTY IMAGES
35

GETTY IMAGES
EVENTS
Beyond the comfort zone
Adventure is high on the list of priorities in
2024, with individuals eager to depart from
the ordinary and embrace novel experiences.
Whether venturing into new activities, sampling
diverse cuisines, or immersing themselves in fresh
musical landscapes, there's a palpable yearning
for excitement and discovery.
As event organisers aim to meet this increasing
demand for adventure and discovery, they must
keep pushing boundaries and thinking creatively.
By staying in tune with what attendees want and
being innovative, organisers can ensure their
events remain fresh and exciting.
Personalisation
In a world where personalisation is very
much in demand, outdoor events are no
exception. This year, more attendees than ever
are expecting experiences tailored to their
unique preferences and interests. Whether
customising event agendas, offering personalised
recommendations, or creating interactive
experiences, getting personal is a great way to
keep audiences engaged and coming back for
more.
We also must recognise the role of AI in
personalisation. Chatbots help answer questions
from attendees before, during, and after events
and gather valuable feedback to improve future
events. These AI-powered chatbots can also
personalise experiences during events by giving
real-time updates and recommending sessions
based on attendees' interests.
Transformative Experiences
In today's fast-paced world, many festivalgoers
are seeking more than just entertainment – they
crave meaningful experiences that leave a lasting
impact. Research reveals a strong demand for
events that offer transformative experiences, with
attendees also expressing a desire for events that
empower them to take charge of their mental and
physical health.
Even more compelling is the willingness of
these individuals to spend more on events that
provide such opportunities. It clearly indicates
the growing demand for events that go beyond
the ordinary and encourage attendees to grow
personally, gain a fresh perspective on the world
and embrace new ways of thinking.
Embracing Nature
In recent years, there has been a growing demand
from outdoor event attendees to connect with
nature. Many people are seeking ways to escape
the hustle and bustle of urban life and find solace
36

in natural surroundings. As a result, organisers
are incorporating nature-based experiences into
their events, such as guided hikes, wilderness
workshops, and outdoor yoga sessions. By offering
these experiences, event organisers can create
a sense of calm and relaxation while providing
a unique and memorable offering that sets their
event apart.
Sustainability
Sustainability at events is certainly not a new trend
for 2024. However, a more recent notable shift
towards prioritising biodiversity and sustainable
land use is an area that's receiving more attention.
It's no longer just about reusable cups; it's about
understanding and nurturing the land we use
year-round. One such example is the practice of
rewilding to restore delicate ecosystems between
events.
Additionally, brands are expected to
demonstrate their commitment to sustainability
beyond the festival grounds. This shift reflects
a growing awareness among festivalgoers who
seek brands that align with their values. By
prioritising eco-friendly practices and transparent
sustainability initiatives, brands can enhance
their reputation and appeal to environmentally
conscious consumers.
Food and drink
Consumer demand for plant-based and healthy
food options at events is on the rise, reflecting
a broader shift towards wellness-oriented
lifestyles. Attendees increasingly seek
nutritious alternatives that align with their
dietary preferences and health-conscious
attitudes. From vegan-friendly dishes
to gluten-free options and organic
produce, event organisers will be doing
more to cater to the diverse nutritional
needs of their audience.
There has also been a noticeable
increase in requests for low- and
no-alcohol beverages. With buyers
becoming more mindful of their alcohol
intake, both drinkers and non-drinkers
are showing significant interest in alcohol
substitutes and canned mocktails that offer
health benefits and a tantalising drinking
experience. What was once considered an
'extra' is now an expectation, reflecting evolving
preferences towards healthier alternatives in event
beverage offerings.
Cost of living challenges
In the face of the ongoing cost of living crisis, we
will see more events implementing payment
plans such as Paypal's Pay in 3. For organisers
and attendees alike, flexible payment options
offer a win-win situation. The event benefits from
increased conversions and receives full payments
earlier in the year, while customers can still attend
their favourite events without facing immediate
financial strain.
With these flexible options enabling attendees
to book earlier, planners should be able to deliver
larger and more impressive events with highercalibre
lineups. This approach not only has the
potential to appeal to returning attendees from
previous years but will attract new faces to the
event.
What was once considered an
'extra' is now an expectation,
reflecting evolving preferences towards
healthier alternatives in event
beverage offerings
EVENTS
The Landwirtschaftliches Hauptfest takes place in
Stuttgart in South West Germany over nine days
in late September/early October to coincide with
the popular Cannstatter Volksfest Beer Festival. It
showcases machinery, structures and a wide range
of solutions employed across the agricultural sector,
from rearing livestock to working the land.
A large part of the show ground is covered with
gravel and not ideally suited for pedestrian traffic,
pushchairs or those with mobility issues. For this
reason the organisers were looking for a product that
could be quickly and easily deployed as a walkway
on the gravel surface for the duration of the event
to provide a more suitable and comfortable surface
for pedestrians, especially for wheelchair users and
children’s buggies etc.
Another requirement was that the product could
be removed quickly after the show and would take up
little storage space when not in use, as the operators
of the Cannstatter Wasen showground planned to
use it for other events held at the venue. S2T Group’s
PERFO-EQ system of interlocking plastic tiles was the
ideal solution, meeting the client’s requirements.
The Game Fair 2021
(John Rigby & Co)
Product: Bespoke 9m x 12m safari tent
Supplier: Bond Fabrications, 01453 767171,
enquiries@bondfabrications.co.uk
www.bondfabrications.co.uk
Esteemed London gunmakers John Rigby & Co
approached Bond looking for a highly bespoke tent to
use for The Game Fair at Ragley Hall.
John Rigby & Co were very keen to source a large
custom designed tent to offer high level hospitality
to their guests and clients while showcasing their
handcrafted rifles. Their brand identity is centred
around the core values of workmanship, quality and
exclusivity and the bespoke safari tent had to reflect
this.
After many conversations a variety of CAD designs
were created to suit the brief. The result was a
beautifully crafted 9m x 12m custom safari tent. The
overall specification was highly bespoke with a variety
of details not typically standard – even down to a
custom stitched canvas logo!
The design team at Bond thoroughly enjoyed the
process. As a true British manufacturer, serving the
outdoor hospitality industry for over 30 years, Bond
provides a full design and supply service and offers
the kind of detailing and workmanship that helps
clients really set themselves apart.
Mucky Weekender
Festival
Product: Big top tents and staging
Supplier: Meerkat Marquees, 07966 402696
info@meerkatmarquees.co.uk
www.meerkatmarquees.co.uk
The Mucky Weekend Festival offers music and
camping for 2,000 people. Meerkat Marquees
supplied the big top marquees and staging.
The main tent was delivered on an 18 tonne
truck. The other big top came direct from another
event and arrived on a 7.5 tonne lorry. Other tents
and flooring arrived on a 3.5 tonne trailer.
Once the trusses were up on the main tent, the
100 stakes were hammered in place. The crew was
then split so some placed all the side wall poles
around the tent while the rest of the 10 person team
marked out and erected the king poles for the other
big top. The team even managed to set up one of
the 6m x 9m backstage tents by 7pm on that first
day.
On day two Meerkat was on site by 8am and
laced up the sheets to the main tent and did the
same with the smaller big top. The stage was
installed and the three remaining 6m x 9m tents
erected. The walls were attached to the big tops and
the stage decks were in place by 7pm.
