Boil Water Update Notice Oxford<br />

The boil water notice on the Oxford Rural No.1<br />

water supply remains in place.<br />

Since the turbidity incident last week, turbidity<br />

levels of the well have continued to be high despite<br />

efforts to flush the well.<br />

The increased turbidity has been affecting the<br />

treatment system and putting astrain on the<br />

well pump.<br />

Therefore, adecision has been made to<br />

commence re-development of the main well<br />

at the McPhedrons Road site.<br />

The emergency backup source at the Rockford Road<br />

River Intake will be brought online to supply the<br />

water scheme whilst the main well is taken offline<br />

for re-development.<br />

The re-development works on the well will<br />

commence on Monday 21 <strong>August</strong> <strong>2023</strong> and is<br />

expected to take four to six weeks to complete.<br />

Whilst the boil water notice was precautionary<br />

before, it is now critical as the water quality from<br />

the river intake is very poor in comparison.<br />

Waimakariri Welcomes Second<br />

Announcement onWoodend Bypass<br />

Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon is welcoming a<br />

policy announcement from the Government that<br />

promises to deliver the Woodend Bypass.<br />

Labour recently announced that, if elected, they<br />

would build asuite of ‘<strong>North</strong>ern Link’ projects that<br />

include the Woodend Bypass as well as creating<br />

more lanes on the Ashley River Bridge.<br />

In the statement they scheduled the Woodend<br />

Bypass to start in 2026/27. It also included an<br />

extra $5.4b to assist with for the maintenance of<br />

state highway and local roads.<br />

This announcement follows the National Party's<br />

transport package which includes the Woodend<br />

Bypass as aroad of national significance.<br />

Mayor Dan Gordon says it is great tosee that the<br />

two major parties are committed to aproject that<br />

we have advocated strongly over many years.<br />

The Woodend Bypass was first confirmed in2013<br />

following safety concerns from the community<br />

but Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency stalled<br />

the project.<br />

Since then, many in the community, including<br />

Waimakariri District Council and Woodend-<br />

Seon Community Board, have called for and<br />

organised public rallies calling for this project to<br />

be prioritised.<br />

“This second announcement prioritising the<br />

Woodend Bypass will be welcome news tothe<br />

community,” says Mayor Gordon.<br />

“The community here have been calling out for<br />

this promised infrastructure to be delivered and<br />

for concrete timeframes for construction to start.<br />

For both major parties toidentify this as priority<br />

project is great news.<br />

“Today over 20,000 vehicles pass through<br />

Woodend every day, and this is only going to<br />

increase. The town is quite literally divided intwo<br />

by the State Highway. The Bypass will make the<br />

area safer for residents, business owners and<br />

children –it’s well overdue.<br />

“The Council and Ifully support this second<br />

announcement as it shows the infrastructure<br />

needed by communities of Woodend, Pegasus<br />

and Ravenswood are on the radar of both<br />

major parties.”<br />

The Council is also committed to continue to<br />

strongly advocate for better infrastructure<br />

investment from Waka Kotahi for the wider District.<br />

“There are many pressing road developments such<br />

as areplacement of Skew Bridge in East Kaiapoi<br />

as well as an Eastern Rangiora Link Road that are<br />

required to accommodate agrowing population.”<br />

says Mayor Gordon.<br />

Roadside Spraying<br />

Chemical Control of<br />

Vegetation All Areas<br />

PUBLIC NOTICE<br />

Residents are advised that our vegetation<br />

control contractor (CORDE Ltd) will start<br />

roadside spraying in all areas in September<br />

<strong>2023</strong>. The chemical used is aglyphosate<br />

base (Lion Herbicide and LI-1000). This will<br />

continue intermittently when required and<br />

weather permitting, through to April 20<strong>24</strong>.<br />
