Protecting our
Thursday August 31 2023 The Star
black swans
HATS OFF to the city council park
rangers for installing the attractive fence
round the black swans nesting on the
bank of a lake at Westlake Reserve.
Many park users were concerned
about their safety as their regular
island nesting place is under flood
waters, and so I contacted the city
council for assistance.
I put up white signs, then the city
council planted official warning signs,
and now the protective fence.
The resident swans and their
annual cygnets are much loved
members of the vibrant bird life at
the reserve, and all users appreciate
the cooperation of the city council in
protecting them.
Next item is
securing the
bench seat
further along the
bank, damaged
by successive
flooding - it gives
one a sinking
feeling!
