Wise words in time
for Father’s Day
THE DADS at Arvida Rhodes on
Cashmere have been sharing their wisdom
across generations.
The residents have been writing down
their thoughts and advice on being a dad
and having children. They’ve then been
photographed holding up their messages
just in time for Father’s Day.
Arvida Rhodes on Cashmere village
manager Michelle Hamilton said the residents
have lots of insightful knowledge to
share.
“Some residents have been fathers for
longer than I’ve been alive. They’ve been
there and done that so their advice can be
really helpful and sometimes quite funny
too,” she said.
The aim is to share the photos of residents
holding up their signs with Plunket and
maternity wards in Christchurch.

“A small section of the
marina will remain in
place, but the majority of
the structure, including
the jumping jetty will
be removed because of
its poor condition,” said
Rutledge.
“We are looking at
options to replace the
jumping jetty.”
Removing the marina
will also help control
Mediterranean fanworm, an invasive
species that has been increasing in
numbers in the inner-harbour, said
Rutledge.
“This step will help further our
commitment to the whaka-ora healthy
harbour partnership with Ngāti Wheke,
Lyttelton Port Company and Environment
Canterbury.”
Magazine Bay Marina is adjacent to
Naval Point Te Nukutai o Tapoa, which
has been undergoing a redevelopment over
the last few years.
Said Rutledge: “Clearing the marina
is another positive step forward in the
development of Naval Point. We are
working on plans to improve access to
the sea. We’re also upgrading the sports
grounds and developing new shared
facilities for sport and recreation groups.”
The city council took over ownership
of the marina, which had been badly
damaged by a storm in October 2000,
following its amalgamation with Banks
Peninsula District Council.
