GIVING TO MORAVIAN The 2006-2007 fiscal year brought a sense of renewal to Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary under a new president, Christopher M. Thomforde. The College was awarded a $147,000 matching grant from the National Park Service Save America’s Treasures program for a minor restoration of the Brethren’s House. Of that grant, $109,000 was received and counted during the 2006-2007 fiscal year to ensure appropriate care and conservation of the buildings. The College was also awarded a $130,000 Campus Heritage Grant from the Getty Foundation. The grant will fund the creation of a comprehensive historic preservation plan that will formalize the College’s principles and practices regarding the historical preservation of its architectural resources. We closed the year by reaching our Moravian Fund goal of $1,000,000 in unrestricted dollars. The total gifts to Moravian College were $5.1 million in overall support. We saw an increase in alumni giving by 13% and an increase in current parent support by 23%. The Seminary experienced its most successful fundraising year in the history of the institution during the 2006-2007 academic year, due in part to an increase in alumni participation from 39% to 48%. Gifts from alumni in support of the annual fund exceeded expectations by nearly 20%. Members of the Seminary Board of Trustees significantly increased their overall financial commitment in support of the Seminary strategic priorities. At year-end, a gift of $3.2 million, the largest single gift ever contributed to the Seminary, was received from the Adam Brinker estate. Without the yearly support of Moravian’s alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations we could not continue to grow and thrive as an institution of higher education.
